MotoAmerica racer and team owner Elena Myers has announced her engagement to British racer Dean Court, 27, and told Roadracing World in a phone interview that the couple plans a low-key, private wedding with family in attendance this coming January.
Court proposed on Myers’ 22nd birthday, November 21st. Asked if she expected the proposal, Myers said “I knew it was coming, but didn’t think it would be on the day.”
Fittingly, Myers made the announcement on facebook, where the couple first made contact. “We met on facebook, talked for a few months and met (in person) in May,” said Myers, who went to the Classic TT on the Isle of Man to watch Court race last summer. Court then came over to the MotoAmerica finale at New Jersey Motorsports Park and has been in the U.S. since then.
Myers is the only woman to win an AMA Pro sprint road race, winning a Supersport race at what is now known as Sonoma Raceway in 2010 and winning a second Supersport race at Daytona in 2012. She rode a Suzuki GSX-R600 to both wins, with sponsorship from Lucas Oil in 2010 and sponsorship from Suzuki’s facebook page in 2012.
Myers said she plans to continue her Team 21 program in MotoAmerica Superbike in 2016.
