An online fundraiser has been established to help former racebike builder Vernon Davis during his recovery from cancer.

Davis, age 69, is the man who created “Lurch,” the Yamaha XV920 V-Twin Superbike that then-rookie-Pro Kevin Schwantz used to qualify on the second row at his first AMA Superbike race, at Laguna Seca in 1984.

“In August of 2018, my dad, Vernon Davis was diagnosed with cancer in his tonsil and a lymph node in his neck,” Vernon’s son, CMRA and CVMA racer Jesse Davis, wrote in a fundraiser he started on www.gofundme.com. “In true Vernon form he set out to beat this without much help. He has been unable to work for months, while enduring chemo and radiation treatments. He has also been eating through a feeding tube. The good news is that he has beaten the cancer but has a few months of recovery to go before he can go back to work. He has exhausted his savings and is struggling to keep up with the mortgage. I’ve started this campaign in hopes of helping him make ends meet and being able to recover fully before he has to go back to work. Thanks so much.”

Jesse Davis, who told Roadracingworld.com his father still works as a custom biker builder and motorcycle technician in central Texas, has set a fundraising goal of $5,000. At post time, $1,175 had already been raised.
