Round 2 brought blistering laps, big grids and epic battles across all classes during the October 27 & 28, 2018 round of CVMA at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway.

Richie Escalante swept all 4 Middleweight races during the weekend. The highlight being Sunday’s Supersport Middleweight race where he and Michael Gilbert battled flag to flag – setting new records with every lap. Escalante came out on top with the win and a new lap record in the class – 1:46.276. Richie also set a new record in the Formula Middleweight class – 1:47.813.

During the club’s premier race, the CVMA Shootout, presented by TrackDaz and SoCal Track Days, “Aussie Dave” Anthony ran away with the win. Noteworthy in this race was 2nd place Michael Gilbert who ran a 1:45.906 on his Riderzlaw Yamaha YZF-R6. To date, the fastest recorded time anyone has completed on a 600. Anthony also used his Supersport Kawasaki ZX-10R to score a win in Sunday’s Supersport Open, and set a new lap record of 1:47.463 in that class.

Chad Lewin took a pair of wins on Saturday in Formula Open and Supersport Open.

In Ultra Lightweight action, Rocco Landers and Torin Collins were the stars of the weekend. These two youngsters took their respective motorcycles and mopped the floor with the competition. Rocco taking wins in 500 Supersport on his Kawasaki Ninja 400. Then, riding his RS125 to a new lap record in the Ultra Lightweight Shootout with a 1:52.518. Collins on his Moriwaki MD250H was able to score wins in Ultra Lightweight Shootout and Formula 2 both days.

In Formula 40 Middleweight, Quinn Swift and Stuart Smith battled it out on their Yamaha YZF-R6’s. Quinn coming out on top both days and setting a new lap record on Sunday of 1:51.670.

Tired of sitting around worrying about this coming winter? Road trip to SoCal and enjoy some sunshine and competition with one of the best clubs in the country. Racing resumes at Chuckwalla on December 1, 2018.

CVMA offers two full days of racing every race weekend and also includes Saturday qualifying for grid position in all classes, amateur and expert, as well as a wide variety of classes to choose from. More, from a press release issued by Rocco Landers’ publicist:

ROCCO LANDERS SCORES 6 WINS AT CVMA AND SETS TWO NEW TRACK RECORDS ABOARD JEREMY TOYE’S KAWASAKI NINJA 400R AND A HONDA RS125 OVER THE OCTOBER 27-28, 2018 RACE WEEKEND.

This past weekend, just one weekend after a 5th place finish in the Spanish RFME National Championship race in Jerez, Spain, Rocco Landers wins 6 races and sets 2 new track records at the CVMA races at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in Desert Center, California.

Building off of last month’s experience on the Jeremy Toye tuned Kawasaki Ninja400R.com machine, combined with a new Dunlop tire that is being developed for the Moto America Jr. Cup Class, Rocco lowered his MotoAmerica Junior Cup class record by 3 seconds to a 1:56.5.

In addition to racing the Kawasaki Ninja 400R, Rocco’s riding duties included racing a Honda RS125, with which he also lowered the track record in the Ultra Lightweight class from the previous 1:56.6 to a 1:52.5 minute lap time.

Rocco has this to say about the experience, “Again, I would like to thank Jeremy for giving me the opportunity to help him develop his Ninja400R.com machine. Also, thanks much to Jon for the tuning on my RS125. It ran great and we learned a lot about it. Even though we broke the lap records, there is still a lot of improvement to be had and I cannot wait to race the next round in December. With decent weather, the lap times will be broken again. These races are a great way for me to stay sharp and improve until our 2019 season takes off again in Spain.”

Jeremy Toye says, “Rocco showed maturity on track after a small tipover and a tire warmer failure. Then showed speed by utilizing a new tire design that produced more lap records.”

Jeremy Toye’s past racing accolades include a podium and many strong finishes in the Macau Grand Prix, “Fastest Newcomer” in the Isle of Man, multi class wins at Pikes Peak including King of the Mountain, 2x Toyota 200 winner at Willow Springs.

Dale Kieffer had this to say about Rocco, “It was great to work with Rocco Landers this weekend. He was very receptive to the changes on the bike. In regards to the tires, he had great feedback, and in the end he came out with multiple wins and 2 track records. He is a great kid to work with.”

Currently, Rocco is looking for sponsors to partner with for his 2019 racing season in the Spanish European Championship racing series.

Rocco would like to thank the following sponsors: Barnett Clutches and Cables, Jeremy Toye – ninja400R.com, Dale Kieffer and Jason Paden with Dunlop Tires, Powered by JG – Jordi Granell, Dale Keiffer with Racer’s Edge, Justin Barry, California Superbike School – Keith Code, Bell Helmets, Promographics – Marlon, Alpha Structural – Dave Tourje, Cycle Gear, Stylmartin, Zach Bainter, CDream Leathers.
