DOOHAN EXCITES AUSSIE CROWD WITH PHILLIP ISLAND DEMO LAP

Five-time 500cc World Champion Mick Doohan made a sensational return to a MotoGP track when he jumped aboard the Ego Corsa for a demo lap of the stunning 4.4km Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. The 53-year-old Australian knows a thing or two about comebacks, as he took his 5 consecutive World Championships after an almost-miraculous recovery from a career-threatening injury back in 1992.

Milan’s annual motorcycle exhibition EICMA will witness a press conference about Ego Corsa and the 2019 FIM Enel MotoE World Championship, in which Energica is involved as the one-make manufacturer. The event will take place at Energica’s stand (Hall 15 stand Q48) on Wednesday 7 November at 11:30 and will see the participation of representatives from Dorna, title sponsor Enel and teams.

Last Sunday, Mick Doohan received the warmest of welcome backs by the always-enthusiastic Australian crowd, who cheered on one of the all-time Grand Prix greats Australia and motorcycle racing have ever produced. The demo lap set the stage for one of the most thrilling and exciting races of the MotoGP year under the Southern-Hemisphere early-spring sun.

“The bike was impressive on track considering it’s a street-legal version of the Ego Corsa rather than the prototype that will be used in MotoE next year,” said Mick. “It is always a delight to ride the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, especially during the MotoGP weekend. I will look forward to watching the MotoE series with interest next year!”

The last stop for the Ego Corsa before the MotoGP return to Europe will be at the Sepang International Circuit, the venue hosting the penultimate round of the year. Local rider and former 125, Moto3 and Moto2 rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin will be demonstrating the Ego Corsa around the long and flowing Malaysian track.
