Litigation: New Jersey Motorsports Park Responds To Team Pro-Motion Lawsuit

Team Pro-Motion, an operator of motorcycle track days, recently announced that it was suing Millville, New Jersey’s New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP), the site of many of its events, on several grounds.

In a press release issued by its lawyers, Team Pro-Motion accuses NJMP of tortious interference with contracts, attempted misappropriation of trade secrets, defamation, and breach of contract.

Roadracingworld.com reached out to Brad Scott, the Chief Operating Officer for NJMP, to give the track an opportunity to respond to the lawsuit and the claims made within it.

“Certainly, our legal team will be responding to a claim that has no merit or anything outside of that,” Scott told Roadracingworld.com in a telephone interview. “We did cancel dates for Team Pro-Motion because Team Pro-Motion has not been able to complete their contractual financial obligations due to New Jersey Motorsports Park.

“Unfortunately, we’ve had extended conversations and communications with them going back to January 12th of this year to work with them to be able to fulfill their contractual obligations, but unfortunately, they weren’t able to. It’s almost like buying a house and not being able to make your payment. You can’t continue to own your house. So we had to pull back dates they had in 2018.”

Team Pro-Motion is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018 and has been holding events at NJMP every year since the track opened in 2008. In fact, in 2016, Team Pro-Motion had 41 events scheduled at NJMP, and in 2017, Team Pro-Motion listed 47 events at NJMP. The 2018 schedule Team Pro-Motion submitted to Roadracingworld.com had only 17 events scheduled at NJMP.

Considering their long history, we asked Scott if he had seen any changes that would have led to the current situation with NJMP and Team Pro-Motion.

“I don’t know if it’s the market changing,” said Scott. “From what I hear from some of the groups, [Team Pro-Motion founder] Glen Goldman, apparently he sold his interest to another member. I don’t know whether it was in 2017 or 2018. I’m only quoting what Glen Goldman has told me, [but] he is no longer involved with Team Pro-Motion.

“I think New Jersey [Motorsports Park] has a great market for riders and clubs, but I think more and more players are getting involved. We’re still, of course, very active with our [motorcycle] events – MotoAmerica, CCS, AHRMA and WERA. The two-wheel side of it is an area that continues to grow for us. Unfortunately, I think some of the groups are doing better than others.

“We’re saddened by this transaction and a little stunned by a suit, but certainly, New Jersey Motorsports Park will be responding on several levels. But it was purely a cancellation due to them not being able to fulfill their contractual financial obligations to New Jersey Motorsports Park.”

Scott said the former Team Pro-Motion dates have been rebooked to other groups, but the calendar on NJMP’s website still showed Team Pro-Motion events and the calendar on Team Pro-Motion’s website still showed dates scheduled at NJMP.

Stay tuned.

This Just In–In response to the above report, Team Pro-Motion sent a new statement from Glen Goldman, as follows:

“Any claims that I sold my entire interest in Team Pro-Motion and that I am no longer involved in the company are 100% false.”
