Veteran rider brings experience, industry connections to strengthen Superbike team

ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Road racing veteran Geoff May is set to join the Omega Moto team for the remainder of the 2018 MotoAmerica season. May will campaign the team’s Yamaha YZF-R1 package in MotoAmerica’s Superbike Class. May’s new partnership with the team means its collaboration with rider Sebastiao Ferreira has come to an end.

May brings a wealth of experience and industry connections to the Omega Moto team. His resume includes experience racing in World Superbike and with several high-profile American professional road racing teams. More recently, May has been accumulating wins in CCS/ASRA competition and narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the AMA/ASRA-sanctioned 2018 Daytona 200.

“I am super excited about the opportunity that the Omega Moto team has given to me,” May said. “This is a dream come true for me, and I am looking forward to returning to America’s highest level of motorcycle road racing competition. I believe I can make a significant contribution to this team, and that Omega Moto will become an even more competitive team in the MotoAmerica paddock. I would like to thank my current employer CBC National Bank, for supporting me with my racing. They truly embody a work/life balance. I would also like to thank all of my current sponsors, for keeping me going all these years.”

The team will immediately begin working with May’s industry resources to continue improving its Yamaha R1 package and target better race results in the second half of the 2018 MotoAmerica season.

“We are pleased to announce that Geoff May will be riding our Yamaha R1 for the rest of the 2018 MotoAmerica season,” said Omega Moto Team Principal Ken Chewey. “Geoff brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team, and we are looking forward to working with him. I believe Geoff’s experience and insight are the missing link we need to propel the team forward in terms of our on-track performance. I would certainly like to thank Sebastiao Ferreira for his hard work during the first half of the season. He has a bright future ahead of him and we wish him all the best.”

May and the team are looking forward to the next round of the MotoAmerica championship at Utah Motorsports Campus in Tooele, Utah, on July 20-22. The team will be looking to use May’s experience racing at the former Miller Motorsports Park to get right up to speed on the facility’s fast and flowing, 3.06-mile track.
