Summer is technically here and the 2018 FIM MotoGP™ World Championship is getting closer to its halfway point, as the series now heads to the ‘Cathedral’ for the eighth event of the season. The Energica Ego Corsa will be right there in the middle of race day action at TT Circuit Assen, with the eighth demo lap of the year taking place at the 4.5 km (2.82 miles) van Drenthe track this Sunday – less than forty minutes before the start of the MotoGP race.

The track-ready, all-electric superbike machine will be ridden this time by Jurgen ‘The Flying Dutchman’ van den Goorbergh. The now 48-year-old has enjoyed a long international career, which spanned fifteen years, between 250cc, 500cc and World Supersport.

“it’s a quite big sensation to be part of a notable group of riders taking part in the demo lap, which was done by names such as Max Biaggi and Alex Crivillé just before me,” said Jurgen van den Goorbergh. “I tried an electric bike around 7-8 years ago but it was more of a one-off project, while this is something a lot more serious. I’m curious to see the advancements in terms of technology made from then and how the Ego Corsa will feel on track. If this request came from other companies rather than Dorna and Energica, I would have declined it, but on the contrary I’m very excited to take part in this event. It will also be amazing to be lapping around the TT Assen Circuit one more time and I’m sure the enthusiastic Dutch fans will appreciate it. There are many differences from the past but it will surely be a throwback in time nevertheless, and I’m sure my home crowd is still as passionate as it used to be!”

The road to the first edition of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup will involve another series of tests for the 2019 Ego Corsa prototype – and another updated fairing – which will be on track on Thursday and Friday in the hands of Loris Capirossi and Energica’s test rider Alessandro Brannetti.
