MONTEREY, Calif., May 31, 2018 — Four-time 500cc Grand Prix Motorcycle champion Eddie Lawson will be at the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round featuring MotoAmerica Championship of Monterey June 22-24.
Lawson will be appearing as a special guest of Kawasaki USA. He was the 1981 and 1982 AMA Superbike Champion on a Kawasaki KZ1000R that resembles the recently unveiled 2018 Z900RS Cafe. He also won the AMA 250cc road racing National Championship in 1980 and 1981 with Kawasaki.
Kawasaki is offering a three-day special ticket package at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for $179 per person, available for purchase HERE.
The package includes: Three-day event admission and paddock access, VIP parking reserved for Kawasaki motorcycles, grandstand seating, a commemorative Kawasaki gift and souvenir program, and the incomparable opportunity to ride your motorcycle on the track during the Kawasaki parade lap lead by Lawson on Friday, June 22 (limited to 250 participants).
Lawson will lead the parade lap around the same track where he triumphantly carried the American flag 30 years earlier after winning the 1988 United States Grand Prix, an event that returned from a 23-year absence since being held in Daytona. Lawson will also partake in a special autograph session along with World Superbike riders Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes, both of whom have collected wins at this event.
“Steady Eddie” had an amazing career on two wheels that included 31 wins on the world stage. His versatility made him competitive on four wheels as well, evidenced by his moves to Indy Lights and CART. He remains active in go-karts and vintage racing and has been inducted into numerous halls of fame.
The event promises thrilling racing between the competitors in the international series. Rea and Chaz Davies will try to defend their 2017 wins against a grid that includes American rookie hopefuls Jake Gagne and P.J. Jacobsen. Riders in the MotoAmerica series will showcase the surging momentum of the domestic product with Toni Elias aiming to capture his double-win from last year. A lively and entertaining Paddock Showcase stage, autograph sessions, a track walk, and other activities will keep fans entertained throughout the race.
