Mathew Scholtz And Westby Racing Bring Their Own Brand Of Black And Gold To Steelers Country This Weekend

Tulsa, OK – Round eight of the 2019 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship starts this Friday at Pittsburgh International Race Complex (PittRace) in Wampum, Pennsylvania. Mathew Scholtz and his Westby Racing team are excited to race their black and gold #11 Yamaha YZF-R1 Superbike in the part of the country where black and gold are synonymous with winning.

Color schemes aside, PittRace is one of Mathew’s and the team’s favorite tracks on the schedule. The 2.78-mile, 19-turn road course suits both Mathew’s riding style and the razor-sharp handling for which the team’s #11 Yamaha R1 Superbike is renowned.

Last year at PittRace, Mathew finished third in Superbike race one and scored a fifth-place result in Sunday’s Superbike race two. He and the team are hoping for a pair of podium finishes this weekend.

“Pittsburgh has been a very good track for me in the past,” Mathew said. “It’s a tight and twisty circuit, which definitely suits me. (The previous round at) Sonoma was a very up-and-down weekend for us, but we did have a lot of positives that we were able to take from there. We’ve got a lot of ideas after seeing how the bike was behaving at Sonoma, so we just need to work on it from there. I’m going into this weekend with a different approach. Just take things a little more calmly. It’s a three-day event, so things will be happening at a slower pace with more time between practice sessions to get your head around things and get the bike dialed in. It should be a good weekend for us. I am looking forward to getting back out there and hoping to put the Westby bike back on the podium.”

Superbike Qualifying Practice sessions begin at 11:20 AM Eastern Time on Friday, and Superbike Superpole (Qualifying) is on Saturday at 11:15 AM Eastern Time. Superbike Race 1 will go green on Saturday at 3 PM Eastern Time, and Superbike Race 2 is on Sunday also at 3 PM Eastern Time. Both races will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 2 (FS2) and streamed on MotoAmerica Live+.

Meet Mathew, Get An Autographed Poster, And More

Mathew will be available for autographs at the Westby Racing transporter in the PittRace paddock during the Dunlop Paddock Autograph Signing on Saturday from 12 to 12:45 PM. The Dunlop Hot Pit Walk, scheduled for 12 to 12:45 PM Sunday on pit lane at PittRace, is another great opportunity to meet Mathew. He’ll be handing out free, autographed posters and other team items, and you can get your picture taken with him, as well as with Lacy Contreras, the Westby Racing brand ambassador.

Travis Wyman aiming for podium, hoping for better luck this weekend at MotoAmerica Championship of Pittsburgh

Weir Everywhere Race BMW team targeting strong end to 2019 MotoAmerica Stock 1000 season

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Travis Wyman is hoping for better fortunes at his home round of the 2019 MotoAmerica season.

The Weir Everywhere Racing BMW rider who graduated from Penfield High School near Rochester, N.Y., and is sponsored by Harv’s Harley-Davidson of Macedon, N.Y., is happy to be rounding out the season at tracks he has ample experience at.

Wyman has had some tough luck the last two times he’s raced professionally at PIRC. The 2018 MotoAmerica Championship of Pittsburgh was Wyman’s first time piloting the Weir Everywhere BMW S 1000 RR around the track. Despite getting one of his best starts of his 2018 season, Wyman’s motorcycle made contact with another bike heading into Turn 1, which caused Wyman to crash. Despite sustaining several minor injuries, Wyman put in a valiant effort when the race restarted. He restarted the race in last place and raced his way to a top-five finish.

In 2016, Wyman was on his way to claiming a front-row starting position in the Supersport Class, but his lap time did not count due to a red flag being thrown seconds before he crossed start/finish. In the race that year, Wyman experienced a false neutral while downshifting for Turn 3 on the first lap and crashed out of the contest.

“It feels good to be heading to a track that I have a fair amount of experience at,” Wyman said. “I spent a lot of time racing the northern portion of the track in my youth, and the newer southern track is a blast to race on. We learned a few things about our suspension set-up at Sonoma that we think will pay big dividends at the Pittsburgh round. Both tracks have lots of elevation change and sets of corners that really flow together. I’m also stoked to be racing in front of friends and family who are making the trip down from Rochester.”

The Stock 1000 Class makes its first appearance of the weekend on PIRC’s 2.8-mile, 19-turn road course at 4:15-4:50 p.m. Friday for practice. The class is back on track twice Saturday, once for another practice session 8-8:30 a.m. and later for its first qualifying session 11:40 a.m.-12:10 p.m. Qualifying wraps up Sunday morning 10:50-11:25 a.m. before the race takes place at 4 p.m.

For those attending the MotoAmerica Championship of Pittsburgh, don’t forget to stop by the Weir Everywhere Racing BMW rig in the paddock or the team’s location on the fan walk to try out the same Backmate self-care products that have improved Wyman’s fitness and shortened his injury recovery time.

This weekend’s Stock 1000 race will be broadcast live exclusively on the MotoAmerica Live+ streaming platform. MotoAmerica is offering Live+ subscriptions for the remainder of the 2019 season for $39.99. To purchase a Live+ subscription, visit www.motoamericaliveplus.com.

JD Beach Heads to Pittsburgh Looking to Return to the Top

After another great performance on the TT track last weekend in Peoria, Illinois, JD Beach returns to the pavement looking for more top results at round eight of the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex, August 23-25.

The series begins its East Coast swing this weekend in the Keystone State as the 2019 MotoAmerica season winds down with three rounds remaining. Returning back to the traditional three-day weekend format, Beach is eager to pick up where the team left off at the previous round at Sonoma Raceway. The 2018 MotoAmerica Supersport Champion likes the 2.8-mile track and won there last season en route to his second title in the class. Beach would love nothing more than to score another victory this year in the premier class aboard the Attack Performance Estenson Racing Yamaha YZF-R1.

JD Beach — MotoAmerica Superbike #95:

“I’m really looking forward to Pittsburgh. It’s a track that I think kind of suits me and it’s going to be nice having a three-day weekend. We made some steps forward at Sonoma, so I think we will have something to fight with.”

The MotoAmerica Superbike races at Pittsburgh International Race Complex will be aired on FS2 Saturday, August 24 at 7 p.m. ET and Sunday, August 25 at 9:30 p.m. ET. You can also stream all the action live on MotoAmerica Live+ starting at 10:00 a.m. ET on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25 at 9:45 a.m. ET.
