Cycle Gear/SC Project/KWR Ducati’s Kyle Wyman was injured in
a crash during the start of MotoAmerica EBC Brakes Superbike Race One Saturday
at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Wyman was tipping his Ducati Panigale V4 R into Turn One
when the rear of his bike was hit from behind by the Uribe Racing Honda
CBR1000RR of Jayson Uribe.

“I was just trying to find my place in Turn Two and just got
the eject button hit on me,” Wyman told Roadracingworld.com. “I got hit and
highsided. I landed hard on my left side [with] my hand out. At first thought,
my left hip was really hurting. Then I was trying to [help] the cornerworkers push
my bike and I felt my wrist moving in a place that it shouldn’t be moving.

“As it turns out I have a fractured scaphoid in my left
hand. I already have surgery scheduled for Monday. I can’t ride on it [in Race
Two] because it’s nondisplaced right now. If I displace it then it cuts off the
blood supply. Once they screw it, I guess I’m good to go. I can go straight
back on the bike.”

Asked about the incident, Uribe, who was not injured, said, “I
got shuffled to the inside of the track, which is definitely not where I wanted
to be. I ended up going into the corner at pretty much 90 degrees to everyone
else. I was trying to stop, and it just so happened that Kyle Wyman got checked
up by another rider. He had to stop more than I thought and we ended up
colliding together.

“My apologies to Kyle and his team. That’s never the way I
want to ride. I checked on Kyle as soon as I got up to make sure he was
alright. I talked to Kyle when we were on our way over to the med center to
make sure we were cool. I’m going to go over to Kyle’s [pit] after I get done
here and apologize again.”

Uribe said he should be able to repair his Honda and return
to action on Sunday.

Yoshimura Suzuki’s Josh Herrin and Westby Racing Yamaha’s Mathew
Scholtz also crashed during Superbike Race One, but neither rider was injured.
