Dominguez Wins Formula 1 Race At MotorSport Ranch with CMRA

Long time CMRA racer, Dustin Dominguez, was back with style, grabbing two wins including the Formula 1 Expert race during the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) seventh round of Bridgestone/CMRA Championship sprints this past Sunday, August 20, on the 1.7-mile clockwise course at MotorSport Ranch in Cresson, Texas.

A second day of scorching hot weather with a stiff breeze had temperatures in the high 90’s with a heat index over 100 again made for equally blazing lap times. Dominguez threw down, riding his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the wins Sunday’s premiere Metric Garage/CVC/P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert race and RaceworX – A Superstock Expert, and turning the fastest lap of the weekend with an incredible 1:15.179 on lap 2 of race 7, the A Superstock race.

David Rice was the standout for the Middleweights, riding his Kawasaki ZX-6R to three wins in: B Superbike Expert, MotorSport Ranch – B Superstock Expert, and C Superbike Expert, and second in South Central Race Center – C Superstock Expert, turning a fastest of lap of 1:16.357 on Lap 6 of Race 2– B Superstock Expert.

Morning qualifying for Sunday’s headline race, Metric Garage/CVC/P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert was exciting, with lap times in the mid to high teens, with Dustin Dominguez riding his Suzuki GSX-R1000, Doug Frenchak on his Yamaha YZF-R1, and JC Camacho on a Suzuki GSX-R600 grabbing the top three spots.

When the 14-bike grid lined up, Dominguez had pole position, with Frenchak in the middle, and Camacho on the outside of the front row. The start lights went out, Dominguez got the holeshot with Camacho, Frenchak, and Alan Phillips on his Yamaha YZF-R6 hot on his tail. The pack roared towards the Triple section, with Dominguez only a bike length ahead of Camacho and Frenchak with the rest of the pack right behind. Headed into the turn Little Bend, Frenchak slid up the inside of Camacho to take over second.

As the race leaders charged on, they stayed so close you could throw a blanket over them. Dominguez got it on Lap 2, turning the fastest lap of the race with a 1:15.311. Frenchak, in pursuit, answered with a 1:16.086, not letting Dominguez get away. Camacho came back with a 1:16.160, with Phillips breathing down his neck in fourth. Jordan Pence got up into fifth on his Yamaha YZF-R6, while Yamaha YZF-R1 mounted Steven Nedd was caught in a threesome with Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted Hayden Schultz and Aaron Graham. Rounding out the pack Kevin Randall, riding a Yamaha YZF-R6, had all he could handle with “Alaska” Jack Vigneau aboard his Yamaha YZF-R1.

Dominguez held his slim lead with a firm hand as relentless Frenchak stayed on his six, leaving Camacho and Phillips in a tangle for third. On the final lap of the race, Dominguez rode it even harder, stretching his lead to 2.901 over Frenchak and taking the checkers for the win. Frenchak crossed the line next, with Camacho just 0.394 seconds behind, followed by Phillips, a hair’s breadth 0.191 seconds after. Pence crossed next, followed by Nedd, Schultz, and Graham. Randall and Vigneau finished out the top ten. Camacho also snatched the P1 Racing $100 purse for being the first 600 across the line.

Dustin Tessier was Top Novice for the weekend, riding his Yamaha YZF-R6 to four podiums, taking the wins in B Superbike Novice, C Superbike Novice, Moto Liberty – C Superstock Novice, and third in MotorSport Ranch – B Superstock Novice, turning a fastest lap of 1:19.223 on Lap 8 of Race 5, the C Superstock race.

The Jennifer Millsap “Get it Girl” $100 award, sponsored by A. C. Horn, went to Erica Muse for her combined finishes in Ultra LW GP Novice, Solo 30 500SS Novice, Monkey Moto NTXSBKS – Formula 1 Ladies, and Formula 2 Novice aboard her Yamaha YZF-R3 and Yamaha FZ-07R and a fastest lap time of 1:26.740.
