Dwyer Takes the Final Shootout Win of the Season

CCS Florida – Homestead-Miami Speedway

December 7-8, 2019

The CCS Florida Region’s season finale took place December 8 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, with a full schedule of 15 races across 55 individual classes.  This last event of the year determined the final numbers on all class championships for both expert and amateur racers.  Roger Morissette wrapped up the 2019 season as the Expert Overall Champion with the highest tally of points for the season and will don the number one plate in 2020.  Raf Kadaj claimed the title of Amateur Overall Champion for 2019.

The final race of the year was action packed with Sean Dwyer claiming victory in the Unlimited Grand Prix on his Suzuki GSX-R1000.  It was Eric Wood, who nabbed the holeshot at the start of the race on his Woodcraft/Penguin Racing School Kawasaki ZX-10R and led the first half of the six-lap sprint race with the rest of the field hunting him down.  Dwyer was close behind in second with Max Angles in hot pursuit, holding down a solid third position.  Dwyer made his passing move halfway through the race to take over the front spot he would not relinquish. Behind him, Angles was pushing his Yamaha YZF-R6 to the limit looking for a way around Wood and eventually maneuvered into second place.  Dwyer took the checkered flag without further challenge with Angles and Wood with Christian Miranda and Lloyd Bayley rounding off the top five.

On the podium, Wood declared, “Sean Dwyer is a fantastic rider.  I’ve been racing down here with him for a long time.  And he’s always fast and always clean.  Really enjoyable.  The kids are animals and that’s just how it goes, you know.  I definitely got drove into the side a couple of times here, but we stayed upright and it was all good. You know, we’ll just take our lumps and try and come back again next time.”   He further explained, “There was definitely some paint exchanging going on in there.  But, it is what it is.  He (Angles) was riding really well.  I give him credit to be in there and to be going fast on a 600, so if I didn’t earn it, then I didn’t earn it.  It’s OK.  We’ll get it next time.”

“I’ve got to thank all the sponsors who helped us out and all the guys who came to the school on Friday,” Wood stated.  “And all they guys who support us with Woodcraft, especially.  The Dunlop tires that we used were fantastic.  I’ve got to thank Thibault and Freddy, my guys who came all the way out from West Texas to help with wrenching this weekend.  We made a lot of good progress on this bike this weekend and look forward to coming back again next year.”

Wood started the day with a win in the 25-minute GTO race after nailing another early lead and running away with the win.  He later claimed his second victory of the day in the Unlimited Superbike sprint race.  Some of his top supporters include Woodcraft, Penguin Racing School, Dunlop, Maxima, and Armour Bodies.

After the race, Angles said, “It was a definitely a really hard race.  Sean just passed me and I was trying to follow him.   But he was doing a great job and I just did the best that I can.  I just want to thank all my sponsors, Angelito, my dad, my girl, my family, Dunlop Tires.  I can’t remember right now, I’m just really thankful.”  He further commented on his battle with Wood, stating, “I know it was tight. I was just trying to win the race.  I just want to say sorry.”

Earlier in the day, Angles won the GTU, Middleweight Supersport, and Heavyweight Supersport races.  Angles’ sponsors include Envy Racing, Envy Racing Apparel, Hitromasol, D&K Transport and Dunlop.

Dwyer commented on the competition, saying, “Eric and his brother, I’ve had so much respect for those guys for so long.  Man, they fly.  Lots of experience, real good, clean racers.”  Regarding the race, he said, “I just wanted to get a good start so I could have something to do with him (Wood) there and I did. And, Max was in there and we kind of scrapped it up a little bit and then I was like ‘Man I’ve just got to put my head down and see if I can catch Eric.’  I wasn’t catching him at first.  But then I put in a really good lap and made up some ground. It was great.  I haven’t been that fast in a long time.”

“I just want to thank Andrea, Sam and Bob, and all my buddies for helping out,” Dwyer said of his crew.  He went on to thank “Eric, for sponsoring me with Woodcraft, Core Moto, Hurricane Racing – I’m going to forget a bunch of people because I’m an idiot –  Pirelli tires were awesome!  Man, these Pirelli tires, I’m so stoked that I was kick ass.  I haven’t been that fast in a long time.  So, I’m just on Cloud Nine!”

Dwyer also won the Unlimited Supersport race and finished second to Wood in Unlimited Superbike.

The CCS Florida Region’s 2020 season opening event is scheduled to run again at Homestead-Miami Speedway the weekend of February 8-9th, 2020.   For full race results, lap times, points standings, as well as information regarding the 2020 schedule, licensing information, rules, and general information for all regions are available online at: www.ccsracing.us.
