Round 4 of the Law Tigers’ Sandia Motorcycle Roadracing Championships hosted by SMRI was held at Sandia Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 16, 2017 as the second day of the club’s first two-day racing event.

Mikey Shreve returned to SMRI to win the club’s Unlimited Grand Prix class handily, with long time racer Jesse Beck pulling in a lonely second place. The best racing of the day took place as Dylan Beck closed a two-second gap early to battle with Dave Dikitolia for the final four laps of the race. Beck repeatedly attempted passes on the outside of Turn One, the outside of Turn Three, the inside of Turn Five, and the outside of Turn Seven before finally settling for 6th place in the class, all while setting an all-time personal best lap of 54.00 seconds in the attempt. Way to go Dylan!

1st year racer Chris Coriz exhibited his skills at the event winning races in Amateur Club Sport, Amateur Open Superbike, Amateur Middleweight Superbike, and Novice Open Superbike. Due to his exceptional skills, Chris is SMRI’s first racer to receive a mid-year promotion to Expert for over five years. Way to go Chris!!

Novice racer and British expatriate Charlie Winckless also won his first race ever in the day’s two-heat Novice Super Street event. Charlie combined a second place in the first heat with a win in the second to claim the combined win. Way to go Charlie!!!

Registration for Round 5, to take place on August 20 at Sandia Motor Speedway, is already open and will be held in the Standard Configuration. For more information please visit www.smri-racing.org.
