GABRIEL MARTÍNEZ-ABREGO TO REPRESENT MEXICO & TEXAS IN MOTOGP FOR THE THIRD TIME

Gabriel Martínez-Abrego has been invited to participate in the MotoGP Monster Energy Grand Prix of the Czech Republic. The only Mexican born and Texas resident rider to have participated in the motorcycle World Championship will repeat the experience of taking on the world’s best riders for the third time, second time this year.

“Gabo”, as known by family and friends, made history by becoming the first -and only at the moment- Mexican rider to ever participate in a World Championship event when he competed last year in the Moto3 class at the Movistar Grand Prix of Aragón. The 2017 season started at the top for the Texas resident rider when he participated as a wild card entry at the Moto3 Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas at the Circuit of the Americas in the Texan city of Austin

Gabriel’s progression in the Moto3 Junior World Championship, where he competes regularly, has earned him a new approval from the MotoGP Commission to be able to bring the Mexican and Texas flags back with the best riders in the world. ‘Gabo’ will have his third World Championship experience as part of his preparation in search to compete as a season rider next season in the highest Moto3 class. Since the foundation of the #RumboaMoto3 project two and a half years ago, the Motomex Team Moto3 goal has always been to place the Texas resident rider to the highest level of competition. The positive results of this season in the Junior World Championship – an authentic gateway to the World Championship – have led the Mexican team to set the year 2018 as a possibility for ‘Gabo’ to compete in the Moto3 class at the MotoGP World Championship.

Gabriel Martínez-Abrego: “It is an honor for me to announce that I will participate in the MotoGP Czech Grand Prix as a Moto3 wild card entry. I have already raced in two World Championship races and being there in a third event is a great motivation to continue my hard work towards my ultimate goal. It is again a pride to be able to represent Mexico & Texas in the World Championship and I am sure I will learn valuable lessons that help me continue to improve as a rider and help my progress to be able to participate next year as a full season rider. “

Javier Martínez-Abrego, Motomex Team Moto3 managing director: “We are very grateful to Dorna and the MotoGP commission, they are aware of our intentions to reach the Moto3 World Championship in 2018. Gabriel is working very hard and his progress has been very positive. The team has grown as a technical structure, we will certainly maximize this opportunity to demonstrate what we are capable to perform at a World Championship level.”

The Grand Prix of the Czech Republic will be held on August 6th, but before the team will participate in two race weekends of the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship. The first, at the Valencia Circuit on July 9th and the second will take place in Portugal, specifically in the Estoril Circuit, on July 23rd.
