BITTER RESULT FOR CAMIER AT MISANO AFTER A 9-POSITIONS COMEBACK IN RACE2. PJ JACOBSEN MISS THE PODIUM FOR 1 SECOND

Blue skies and summer weather conditions welcomed the last two races of this MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship round at the iconic Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”, with Leon Camier performing a nine-positions comeback but forced to retire at 7 laps from the end; while PJ Jacobsen misses the WorldSSP podium for just one second, ending up 4th; Zaccone got the 2nd place in the ESS ranking and finished close to the top10 in WorldSSP.

WorldSBK – WarmUp, Race2

The race started with some complications for Leon Camier, who is forced to an impressive comeback from the 16th position. The British rider get immediately into the rhythm again on his MV Agusta F4 RC and after a few passes he is able to get into the top10, even attaching and passing the rival Eugene Laverty for the 6th position. Unfortunately, after a comeback of 9 positions, he has to pull out of the race at 7 laps from the end due to a technical problem on the bike. Despite the zero point scored in Race 2, Leon is still the rider n°8 in the championship standings and he will be back on track from 7 to 9 July at Laguna Seca circuit in the United States.

WorldSSP – WarmUp, Race

Patrick Jacobsen made a good start from the 8th position on the grid and immediately start fighting in the top 3 area. Along the 19-lap long race, Jacobsen keeps setting lap times equal to the top three riders. Unfortunately, the tenacity of the American rider is not enough to grab the 3rd seasonal podium, with PJ going to finish in 4th final position at just 1 second from the 3rd rider.

Positive test for the teammate Alessandro Zaccone who, after working long on the setup of his MV Agusta F3 675, finished in 2nd place in the ESS internal ranking and 11th in the WorldSSP class.

Leon Camier #2 WorldSBK – I had a few problem at the beginning of the race and I ended up losing a couple of position after the start. I tried to be aggressive and I managed to get into the rhythm, passing several rider, but the bike’s setting today wasn’t that perfect and in the end I had a technical problem. For sure it wasn’t the best weekend for us but all in all I am happy with the progress we made and I think we have the potential to get some really good result.

Patrick “PJ” Jacobsen #99 WorldSSP – To be honest it wasn’t an easy weekend for me, we struggled a bit in Superpole yesterday because of some technical issues but we fixed most of them before the race. I am quite happy with the race today, even if I wish I could have done better. We have a long summer break ahead and we will work a lot to try to win some races in the final part of the championship.

Alessandro Zaccone #61 ESS – I’m very happy, we’ve made some impressive steps forward on the bike’s setup. Now we can start focusing on the engine, to fill the gap with the other top teams. Given the results we have achieved here at Misano, I’m very confident that we can do well in the upcoming races.

Toprak Sixth At Misano As Deroue Still Leads WorldSSP300

STK1000 rider Toprak Razgatlioglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) was sixth at the Misano round on his Ninja ZX-10RR, after a stopped and restarted race that was finally held over just five laps.

The planned 15-lap race was halted when a rival’s machine experienced a technical problem and oil on the track brought out the red flags. Toprak was in a podium position for a time in both legs of a STK1000 contest, of which only the five lap second race counted for points. After a tough fight in the second race he was finally ranked sixth on the day.

Attempting to get back into contention with the top three after being overtaken by two riders in quick succession, an attempted pass inside his rivals into the Quercia left hand corner almost paid off for Toprak. After drifting wide on the exit he dropped to seventh, however.

Only a last corner move ensured that Toprak would re-pass his fellow Kawasaki rider Jeremy Guarnoni (Pedercini Racing Kawasaki) for sixth place, with Guarnoni right behind in seventh.

Ilya Mykhalchyk (Triple M Racing Kawasaki) went ninth in the short five-lap race, with Glenn Scott (Agro On-Benjan Kawasaki) scoring a point for 15th.

Razgatlioglu now sits second in the championship rankings, by one point, with Michael Ruben Rinaldi on 90 and Toprak on 89. Guarnoni is seventh overall with 38 points.

Toprak Razgatlioglu, stated, “We haven’t fought for the win in Italy, at Misano, so I finished sixth in a very short race. When the championship restarts after the summer break hopefully I will fight for the championship in the other races. Many thanks to everyone for their support once again.”

Scott Deroue (MTM HS Kawasaki) still leads the WorldSSP300 championship, which is all-new for the 2017 season. Scott was the fastest Kawasaki rider at a warm and sunny Misano, in a 13-lap race that went full distance.

Deroue’s championship lead, which he has held since the start of the season after winning the first two rounds, is now three points, over Mika Perez.

Female rider Ana Carrasco (ETG Racing Kawasaki) was 14th and scored two points at Misano, which puts her into tenth place in the championship after the first five rounds.

For both WorldSSP300 and STK1000 categories the next meeting will be held after the long summer break, at Lausitzring in Germany on Sunday 20th August.

Scott Deroue, stated: “Again it was a really difficult race. Outside of the Imola round I have always been the best-classified rider on a Kawasaki. Now that brings me a twelfth position and it isn’t a good result for me. It’s hard to see, as I’m giving my best. Now Perez is my biggest threat, after his victory at Misano. I’m now going to prepare myself in the best possible way for the last four rounds, to keep the leading position in this championship during the second half of the season.”

Soomer & Perez Scorch To Double Misano Wins For WILSport Racedays

The 7th round of the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli yesterday proved to be an event to remember for the WILSport Racedays team with Estonian Hannes Soomer and Spain’s Mika Perez scorching to victory in the European Supersport and World Supersport 300cc categories respectively. For Soomer his 9th place in the overall World Supersport race consolidated his place atop the overall European standings.

With an air temperature of over 30 degrees and the track touching 50 degrees the weekend was hot both on and off track to say the least but that didn’t stop Soomer and Perez from putting in outstanding performances throughout the weekend.

Hannes Soomer arrived at Misano, the second Italian race of the year, confident of putting in another good performance and he didn’t disappoint. Narrowly missing out on making into Superpole 2, the #38 started the 19 lap race strongly before working his way into the top ten where he would stay until the last lap when he launched his attack for 9th. The result and the additional 7 points extend his lead in the ESS standings to 7 points.

In World Supersport 300 reigning European Junior Cup Champion Mika Perez was untouchable, comfortably taking his second Pole Position of the season before using all of his skill and experience to fend off a 5 rider challenge throughout the 13 lap encounter to take his and the team’s first World Championship victory and with it move to within 3 points of the World Championship lead.

Mika Perez – 1st WorldSSP300: “I am really happy to get my first ever world championship win. The race was really difficult with lots of riders fighting for the victory. I’m pleased also as I was the fastest rider in the superpole and the closed the gap to the championship leader to only 3 points. We have all worked really well together and I want to say thank you to the team, all my sponsors and all the people who support me.”

Hannes Soomer – Top ESS, 9th WorldSSP: “It was a really good weekend overall. On Friday we made a lot of progress with the bike and started the race with confidence. I got a good start and could stay more or less with the group for quite a long time. It is a great way to go into the summer break with my best result of the season and extending my lead in the ESS standings. I am looking forward to the tests during the summer break and I know if we keep improving we can be closer to the top in the second half of the season. Thanks to the team for all the hard work and everybody supporting me.”

Mike Dickinson – Team Manager: “The results from Misano are nothing short of incredible, to be winning races at World Championship level is what every team manager dreams about. This whole season has been quite an achievement for me and the entire team. We don’t have a big team but what we have is a great bunch of people who work tirelessly without question to get the best results we can. This weekend only serves to back up all the hard work we have already put in so far this year. The second half of the season we will be better and stronger and I hope to carry on with progress from both riders. Congratulations must go to both riders for their victories today. I am a very happy manager and so proud of my team.”

There is now a 7 week gap until WILSport Racedays return to the track for round 8 at the Lausitzring in Germany in August. They will however use the ‘summer break’ to ensure that the second half of the season is as rewarding as the first.
