Blevins Takes Four Wins at MotorSport Ranch with CMRA

Conner Blevins battled gusty winds and tough competition, riding his Dunlop-shod, EMR-backed, Kawasaki ZX636 to four wins during the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) third round of Bridgestone/CMRA Championship sprints this past Sunday, April 9, on the 11-turn, 1.7 mile counter-clockwise course at MotorSport Ranch, in Cresson, Texas.

Cloudy skies gave way to sunshine, temperatures in the 80’s and a strong all day wind at 22 mph with gusts up to 27 mph made for some physically demanding conditions, but lap times were fast as the 23-race schedule got underway.

Blevins got down to business, taking the wins in P1 Racing/Metric Garage / CVC – Formula 1 Expert, MotorSport Ranch – B Superstock Expert, B Superbike Expert, and C Superbike Expert, with a fastest lap of 1:14.940, the fastest lap of the entire weekend, on lap 2 of Race 10 – Formula 1 Expert

Daniel Adams was out front for the Lightweights, coming back from a rough morning of mechanicals to take the wins in D Superstock Expert, D Superbike Expert, Lightweight Twins Expert, second in Formula 40 Lightweight Expert, and third Century Trucks and Vans – Formula 2 Expert with his Suzuki SV650, running a fastest lap of 1:54.673 on Lap 4 of Race, Formula 40 Lightweight Expert.

Zachary Boldwyn was the winner of the first Century Trucks and Vans Formula 2 Expert Shootout, taking home the $750 purse and turning a fastest lap of 1:19.544 on Lap 2 on his Suzuki SV650.

Morning qualifying for Sunday’s headline race, P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert saw lap times in the high teens with the potential for some fierce battles. Conner Blevins took pole position, with Brandon Young on his Kawasaki ZX-10R, and Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted Garet Tomlinson rounding out the front row.

As the 22-bike grid lined up, the gusty winds continued to make it interesting for the racers. The start lights went out, and the tension mounted as Blevins and Tomlinson shot forward contesting for the lead. Shawn Randall, riding a Yamaha YZF-R1, had Doug Frenchak, also on a Yamaha YZF-R1 and Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted Nick Doolan all over him like a cheap suit for third. Brandon Young got a rough start and was knocking bars with Craig Montgomery to stay in the top six. Dewayne Davis, also riding a Yamaha YZF-R1, BMW S1000RR mounted Joseph Caruso, and Jorge Guerrero, astride a Kawasaki ZX-10R were so close you could throw a blanket over them to round out the top ten.

Blevins gained the lead, but had to shake Tomlinson if he wanted to win this, and he put his head down on Lap 2 to gain some distance, throwing down the fastest lap of the weekend with a 1:14.940. Tomlinson answered with a 1:15.064, so Blevins still had some work to do to, and continued to turn and burn to make a gap. The rest of the pack followed suit, with the fastest lap times only differing by .05 -.08 of a second between the top riders.

The race stretched on, and the leaders broke away from the pack, creating a 9 second gap from first to fourth place. Tomlinson hung on, but Blevins was getting away, and as the white flag came out, Blevins had a gap on Tomlinson. Blevins took the checkers for the win with a 3.980 margin over second. But their furious battle pulled them away from the rest of the pack, with Tomlinson crossing second with a 6 second margin over third. Randall was next for third, with Frenchak and Doolan finishing fourth and fifth. Montgomery got around Young for sixth, with Davis, Caruso, and Guerrero finishing eighth, ninth, and tenth. Blevins also grabbed the P1 Racing purse for being the first 600 across the line.

Top Novice went to Tyler Raboin, who took wins with his Yamaha YZF-R6, in Monkey Moto NTXSBKS – B Superbike Novice, MotorSport Ranch – B Superstock Novice, Altus Lawton Motorsports – C Supersbike Novice, and Moto Liberty – C Superstock Novice, turning a fastest lap of 1:18.260 on Lap 6 of Race 22, the B Superbike.

The Jennifer Millsap “Get it Girl” $100 award, sponsored by A. C. Horn, went to Shandra Crawford for her combined finishes aboard her Triumph Daytona 675R in Monkey Moto NTXSBKS – Formula 1 Ladies, Heavyweight Twins Expert, Formula 40 Middleweight Expert, and Solo 30 MW Expert.
