     The project had started with a stock 2015 GSX-R1000 front end—including forks, upper and lower triple clamps (with a stock steel SV650 steering stem installed), brakes and wheel, plus a Brembo RSC 19 x 18 racing master cylinder, Venhill braided stainless steel brake lines, and Vesrah RJLXX pads—because we had a left-over front end that had been replaced during a MotoAmerica GSX-R1000 Superbike build.

     The stock GSX-R1000 forks were each fitted with a K-Tech RDS 25mm cartridge kit valved by K-Tech’s Lenny Albin. When Racing Editor Chris Ulrich rode the bike at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, he determined that the front end was too short and the overall height of the bike was too low.

     Mechanic Rob Silva pushed the upper fork tubes down flush with the triple clamps and that helped, but not enough. So, after that test, Albin made the forks longer, lengthening each cartridge internally by 10mm (using a shorter internal spacer and a longer preload tube), and installing screw-on K-Tech 35mm fork cap extenders …
