A short, light rain shower prior to MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Qualifying Practice Two Friday afternoon at Road America led to most riders going slower or simply choosing to stay in the pits, and this in turn resulted in Celtic HSBK Racing’s PJ Jacobsen staying on pole position for this weekend’s sole Stock 1000 race.

During Stock 1000 Qualifying One, Jacobsen turned a best lap time of 2:15.279, which was close to his best lap (2:15.260) en route to winning the Stock 1000 race during the opening MotoAmerica round at Road America in May.

This time, however, Jacobsen did his lap time while carrying 22 extra pounds of ballast on his Celtic HSBK Racing Ducati Panigale V4 R, after MotoAmerica increased the minimum weight limit for the Panigale V4 R between rounds one and two.

Asked how his Ducati felt with 22 extra pounds bolted to various points of its chassis, Jacobsen said, “Obviously, it was just the first session, but it felt a lot different on braking and on corner exits and stuff. I was missing the apexes going into corners because it wanted to push wide and it was sluggish coming off the corners. So, yeah, the bike was a bit different, but we’ll work on some stuff to adjust and see what we can do to make it better.”

Danilo Lewis was the quickest rider in wet Qualifying Practice Two with a 2:33.883 on his Procomps Racing Team BMW S1000RR.
