Anyone starting their own business takes a leap of faith. David Behrend made the leap to start his motorcycle suspension business by quitting a good job right after his first child was born and right when the Great Recession was hitting the motorcycle business hard. But Behrend’s faith in himself and his plan paid off as he and Fast Bike Industries (FBI) have thrived over the last 11 years.
Behrend grew up in Toronto, Canada, and after an initial infatuation with high-performance cars, he fell in love with motorcycle road racing.
“I started watching the 500cc Grand Prix races and I was absolutely hooked,” said Behrend. “I did everything I could to watch them on TV. Back then you had to buy video tapes, and I would buy all of them…”
