Season finale set up as a stunner with a front row split by less than a tenth
2015 and 2016 Moto2™ World Champion Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) starts his final intermediate class appearance from pole position in Valencia, beating Garage Plus Interwetten rider Tom Luthi to the top spot by only 0.006 seconds – with Franco Morbidelli (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) only another 0.048s back to complete the front row for the final showdown.
Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team) impressed to head the second row, with key contender for P2 in the title, Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP40), taking P5 in his final home race in Moto2™. Compatriot Julian Simon (QMMF Racing Team) continued his impressive form in Valencia to complete row two.
Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) headed a British invasion on row three, with Danny Kent (Leopard Racing) just behind in P8. Assen winner Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) was ninth quickest, with another home hero – Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Alex Marquez – completing the top ten at home; the stage for his 2014 Moto3 World Championship title victory.
