Farrell, Staropoli, West Win ASRA National Sprint Races At Road America

West, Farrell and Staropoli Victorious at Elkhart Lake

Elkhart Lake, WI – The AMA sanctioned ASRA Sprint Series presented by Pirelli Tire joined CCS, CRA and the AMA Road Race Grand Championships at Elkhart Lake’s Road America for one of the biggest motorcycle road racing event of the season so far. The 255 riders accounted for 955 entries and the racing action was non-stop.

The ASRA Superstock class featured the two fastest riders from the ASRA Team Challenge facing off again in a six-lap dash. David Loikits on his Suzuki 1000 got the hole shot, but after that it was Cory West and Jason Farrell who quickly jumped in front and took off from the field. On lap two, Cory West on his BMW S1000RR set an new lap record for the class at 2:15.950, giving himself some much needed breathing room over Farrell on his Kawasaki ZX-10R. West continued to inch away until the gap was 5.312 seconds at the checkered flag. Farrell cruised to second, 16.572 seconds ahead of Garrick Schneiderman on his Yamaha YZF-R1 in third position, After a problem on the final lap, David Loikits finished in 12th position and boosted his point lead to 32 in the championship with just three rounds remaining.

The weekend was not a total wash for Jason Farrell, his Farrell Performance Kawasaki 636 took him to a huge win in ASRA SportBike over the TSE Yamaha YZF-R6 of Carl Soltisz. Third position went to Tony Storniolo on his Quintec Integration Kawasaki 636. Even without making the trip to Road America, Mark Heckles still holds a 62-point lead in the class with three races left,

A big surprise in the ThunderBike class was the victory by Ralph Staropoli on his Honda RS250, edging out Kevin VanEngen and his Suzuki SV650 by 1.591 seconds. This was the first victory in ASRA ThunderBike for Staropoli and the first win by anyone aboard a 250GP machine. Third place went to 2015 CCS Mid-West Overall Champion Drew Jankord. With a sixth-place finish, Douglas Fogg moves into the point lead for the ThunderBike championship.

For the Amateur classes it was Piotr Urlinski with the win SuperStock, another win for Bailey Cox in SportBike and Tim Koebert took the win in Thunderbike

Next race for the ASRA Sprint Series Presented by Pirelli Tire is August 13-14, 2016 at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL.
