For many, 2020 has been a year to forget. For American racer Garrett Gerloff, 2020 has been a year he will never forget, despite its challenges. When Roadracing World last talked to the 25-year-old Texan in the June issue, he had just finished an eye-opening debut weekend racing his GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Junior Team YZF-R1 in the FIM Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island. Then the world was locked down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the COVID-19 situation improved and racing prepared to resume, Gerloff had to jump through bureaucratic hoops in order to travel back to Europe just before the new-look 2020 Superbike World Championship resumed at Jerez.
