Turpin Breaks Track Record Three Times Aboard Kawasaki ZX-10R Equipped with DIABLO™ Superbike Tires
ROME, Ga. – Today, Pirelli announced that history was made once again during the third round of the Vortex Masters of Mountains racing series on the East Course at the Utah Motorsports Campus (UMC) on June 18-19. Rickdiculous Racing’s Shane Turpin set a blistering pace aboard his Kawasaki ZX-10R to earn Pirelli its second track bounty of the 2016 season. His incredible performances witnessed him break the track record an astonishing three times throughout the weekend.
Turpin’s ZX-10R was equipped with Pirelli’s DIABLO™ Superbike SC1 front and rear slicks in Moto 1, which witnessed him turn a record lap of 1:32.599 that topped the previous record of 1:32.703 set by Scott Jensen in 2008. He would switch to the Pirelli DIABLO™ Superbike SC1 front and SC0 rear and beat his own record during the King of the Mountain GTO race with a 1:32.419 and for the third and final time in the Open Superbike class with a 1:31.874.
“What a weekend for Shane and congratulations to the entire team,” said Jeff Johnston, Pirelli Road Racing Manager, NAFTA. “This is another confirmation that the Pirelli WSBK SC1 and SC0 rear tires have the capability to lower lap times and set records thanks Pirelli’s industry-leading technology.”
In addition to setting the course record, Turpin’s successful weekend continued as he claimed the class wins in Moto 1, King of the Mountain GTO, Open Superbike and Formula 40 in dominating fashion.
