WorldSBK, MotoAmerica Riders Set Sail for San Francisco Fan Tour July 6

Monterey, Calif. June 30, 2016 – Round 9 of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World ChampionshipGEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round featuring the MotoAmerica Honda Superbike Showdown of California is set to get underway July 8-10 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, with home country hero Nicky Hayden leading the charge at the legendary Monterey venue.

Before they go out on track, however, riders from both the international and U.S.-based series’ will visit San Francisco on July 6 for a pre-event with a difference: a cable car journey sponsored by Tissot to some of the city’s key landmarks, ending in a Meet and Greet and autograph session at Marina Green. Tissot is the Official Timekeeper of the Superbike World Championship.

Packed with history, the city is home to some of America’s most famous landmarks, not least the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz prison, and the streets of the City by the Bay are lined with the world-renowned cable cars that call San Francisco home. On Wednesday, July 6, WorldSBK riders including Nicky Hayden, Tom Sykes and Chaz Davies, Alex de Angelis, Karel Abraham, Sylvain Guintoli and Leon Camier, as well as MotoAmerica riders Cameron Beaubier, Tony Elias, and Bobby Fong are set to explore the Northern California jewel. From Union Square to Marina Green, taking in AT&T Park, the Ferry Building and lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf, the tour will be a memorable highlight for both riders and fans.

As well as photo opportunities along the route, the event’s final stop at Marina Green will host an autograph session and Meet & Greet for fans to get even closer to the riders and get a different kind of souvenir from the superstar line-up. From 11 a.m. to arrival at the Meet and Greet and autograph session at Marina Green at 1:15, motorcycle fans will experience a once-in-a-lifetime treat.

Make sure you don’t miss the action on or off track for Round 9 of the 2016 calendar, from the tourist trail in San Francisco to farther south in Monterey, when practice begins July 8 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca as the grid prepares to tackle the legendary Corkscrew.
