Motorcyclists combined to raise more than $126,000 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation at two Ride for Kids events on June 6.

Atlanta’s 33rd annual Ride for Kids began and ended at the Cumming Fairgrounds. More than 450 participants rode in honor of local brain tumor survivors A.J., Amelia, Anna, Axton, Caroline, Catherine, Chayton, Christian, Colton, Coty, Dominique, Frederick, Jarrod, Jayden, Julia, Justin, Juan, Maddie, Mandy, Mao, Marlayna, Marshall, Stacy, Tony and Victoria, as well as eternal Stars Bianka, Brayden, Matthew and Matty.

“I got to keep Brayden here on earth with me longer, because of all the money raised by Ride for Kids events for new research and new treatments,” said Maranda Martin. “[Ride for Kids and] the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation are here to help children in a very difficult battle.”

Riders also heard from Dr. Claire Mazewski, pediatric neuro-oncologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. Event emcees were Bill Bridges and Jocelyn Dorsey.

As of ride time, the Atlanta event had raised $90,866. Donations are still being accepted online at www.rideforkids.org/atlanta.

In Virginia, more than 135 riders gathered at the Richmond Times-Dispatch facility in Mechanicsville to cheer on their local Stars, Alexa, Jasmine and Jalen.

After a loop ride through rural farmland in Henrico County, the riders returned to hear from the Stars and their families.

Jalen and his family were attending the event for the first time. “Jalen is so excited to ride a motorcycle,” said his mom, Crystal Robertson.

Other special guests included social worker Robyn Dillon from the hematology/oncology clinic at Virginia Commonwealth University Children’s Hospital, Ms. Virginia, Susan Greenbaum, and event emcee Nikki-Dee Ray of Channel 6 Weather.

The Virginia event had raised $35,232 as of ride time. You can add to the total by making a donation at www.rideforkids.org/virginia.
