Beaubier Extends Yamaha’s Wisconsin Winning Streak With A Victory In Superbike Race 1 At Road America; Teammate Hayes Finishes Third

Elkhart Lake, WI – June 5, 2016 – Defending MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Cameron Beaubier won Sunday’s Superbike Race 1 at Road America aboard his #1 Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Factory Racing YZF-R1. To date, a Yamaha Superbike rider has tasted victory at Road America for seven consecutive years.

Cameron’s teammate Josh Hayes started from the pole and also got the holeshot going into turn one, with Cameron slotting into second. From there, the battle was on between the two teammates as Roger Hayden followed closely behind in third.

On lap 7, a rare mistake by Josh caused him to run wide in turn 12, which set the four-time AMA Superbike Champion back a few seconds. With his work cut out for him, Josh focused on running fast laps, and his hard work paid off as he caught up to Cameron and Roger. Meanwhile, Cameron rode smooth, consistently fast laps throughout the race and took the checkered flag with a gap of nearly half a second over Roger. Josh rounded out the podium solidly in third.

“I felt really good in the race and felt comfortable leading,” Cameron said. “I was able to outbrake Josh in some corners, so I was really happy about that. I threw two bikes down the road over the past couple of days, so I’m really glad to win today and get some redemption for my guys who have had to work extra-hard to rebuild two bikes this weekend.”

Josh commented, “When we were all together at the front, I thought I had spots where I was good and Cam had some spots where he was good, too. It felt great being up front, and I was having fun. But, I knew that Cam was right there behind me. Going into the chicane, I thought I could get him on the brakes, but he had me covered and I got in too deep. After that, I had a front-row seat for a really good show in front of me.”
