The Barni Racing Team launches his new project with Ducati Panigale V2 and Nicolas Spinelli

Calvenzano (BG), 6 February 2021. Three years after the triumphant 2018 that brought the title as best independent team in World Superbike, Barni Racing Team will be back on track with a twin-cylinder Ducati: the Panigale V2. While Dorna and FIM are working on the evolution of the regulations, Marco Barnabò and his team are launching the development project of the red Ducati from Borgo Panigale 955cc with the aim of debuting in 2022 in the World Supersport Championship.

The path starts from the National Trophy 600 SuperOpen – the national championship for competition motorcycles that in 2021 will open the Supersport to bikes up to 960cc for twin-cylinder models.

Riding the “Panigalina” with the colors of the Barni Racing Team will be the 19-year-old Nicholas Spinelli, two-time Italian Moto3 Champion in 2017 and 2019. A young and promising rider for a project that looks to the future.

The Barni Racing Team’s commitment to technical support for Schacht Team is always on: the Danish team will line up Alex Schacht in the National Trophy 1000 with the Ducati Panigale V4 R, while Manuel Bastianelli will be alongside Spinelli in the 600 SuperOpen with another Panigale V2.

“Supersport always has been a crucial category for training riders capable of competing at a high level in Superbike, and for this reason we are happy that DORNA and FIM are working on the evolution of Supersport regulations, encouraging manufacturers like Ducati to re-enter this category. Without the Superstock 1000 category, Ducati teams no longer had a class in which to train their riders, and I think it’s important for the various brands to be able to have this entry level category to Superbike. We are proud to be the one of the first team to race with the Panigale V2. As we have already done with all the new Ducati models, we start with the development a year in advance to be ready and to grow the bike together with a young rider. We chose Spinelli because he’s a talented prospect who has already demonstrated his value by winning two championships. Our goal is to do this path together in order to line him up in the 2022 WorldSSP. I’m also very happy to be able to support the Schacht team. They decided to line up Manuel Bastianelli, another talent we’re keeping an eye on.”

“I’m very happy to have signed with the Barni Racing Team. I want to thank both Marco Barnabò and Ducati for the opportunity, but I want to handle the situation step by step: the transition from Moto 3 to a bike of almost 1000cc is a big jump. I will have to adapt my riding style and develop the bike, the goal in this first year is to gain experience and collect data to be ready if there will be the chance to race in the 2022 SSP World Championship.”

Manuel Cappelletti_ Team Manager Schacht Racing Team by Barni

“Renewing the collaboration with the Barni Racing Team was one of the priorities for the Schacht team and and when the option to race with a Panigale V2 – in addition to the Panigale V4 – we seized the opportunity also thanks to Barni. We will be on track in the two categories of the National Trophy trying to be competitive.”
