GEICO Confirmed as Event Main Sponsor for #USWorldSBK

US insurance giant to title Round 9 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

GEICO and Dorna WSBK Organisation (DWO) are pleased to announce GEICO as the Event Main Sponsor for Round 9 of the 2016 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, to be held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California, July 8 – 10. The Round will be known as the GEICO Motorcycle US Round.

GEICO, the second largest private passenger auto insurer in the US is delighted to collaborate with prestigious partner WorldSBK for the spectacular race weekend at the legendary Laguna Seca circuit. GEICO was founded in Texas in 1936 and now insures more than 23 million vehicles in all 50 US states. Its corporate headquarters is in Chevy Chase, Maryland. In addition, GEICO has an ongoing history of motorsport sponsorship and WorldSBK is thrilled to see the brand return as a key collaborator, after a successful partnership last season.

In its latest collaboration for 2016, GEICO will delve into the world of two wheels to sponsor the world’s fastest production motorcycle racing Championship, WorldSBK, as the paddock returns to race at the world famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California, home of the spectacular ‘Corkscrew’ corner. American Honda rider Nicky Hayden, who won his first race in WorldSBK in Malaysia, will be hoping to repeat his successes at his home track after having won the US GP held at the circuit in 2005 and 2006. Hayden is sure to draw an incredible crowd to the GEICO Motorcycle US Round.

GEICO will also further their commitment within WorldSBK through a new sponsorship agreement with Kawasaki Racing Team, as the reigning Champions welcome the US company on board to contest the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship with riders Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes.

“We are excited to build upon a great partnership with WorldSBK,” said Ted Ward, GEICO vice president. “The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is one of the top destinations for superbike racing and offers a superb opportunity for us to connect and engage with race fans.”

“We’re thrilled to have GEICO onboard for Laguna Seca,” added Marc Saurina, Commercial and Marketing Director of WorldSBK. “World Superbike offers incredible exposure and to have that recognized by working with returning collaborators such as GEICO is fantastic news. WorldSBK is a global sport with a new American ambassador on the grid for 2016, and to count on support from a US giant like GEICO is a big opportunity for both parties.”

The GEICO Motorcycle US Round starts July 8, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca as home hero Hayden pitches himself against rivals like Rea, Sykes, Davies and van der Mark in a bid to take the victory at the iconic US track.
