Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association (CVMA) is banning the use of aftermarket oil filters during its 2016-2017 race series, which begins in September.

Today, CVMA Race Director Jay Tanner announced: “In light of the recent string of issues related to aftermarket oil filters, CVMA is highly recommending that you do not use ANY brand of aftermarket oil filter. 

“New rule effective the first round of next season in September – no aftermarket oil filters, of any kind, will be allowed. This is for our riders’ safety!”

CVMA racer Dustin Coyner told Roadracingworld.com that he suffered significant injuries in a crash caused by an O-ring failure on an aftermarket oil filter in November 2015.

The aftermarket oil filter on Kyle Wyman’s Millennium Technologies/KWR Yamaha YZF-R1 MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 racebike suffered an O-ring failure during Race One April 9 at Circuit of The Americas, resulting in a large oil spill, two lengthy clean up delays, and a fire on Wyman’s motorcycle.
