Editorial Note: Defending MotoAmerica Supersport Champion Richie Escalante suffered mechanical problems with his new 2021-model HONOS Ride HVMC Kawasaki ZX-6R, limiting his track time during FP1.

The bigger news, however, is that Escalante broke his left collarbone while training on his bicycle May 7 in Los Angeles, California.

Escalante underwent surgery to plate the fractured bone on May 8.

The Mexican rider told Roadracingworld.com that he is definitely not 100% physically and his goal is to score as many points at VIR as possible. He added that he would be very happy to finish on the Supersport podium this weekend.
