Bobby Fong crashed his M4 ECSTAR Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike at high speed Thursday, June 24 at Ridge Motorsports Park, in Shelton, Washington.
Fong was taking part in an official test/practice day ahead of the MotoAmerica race weekend to assess the newly paved racing surface when he crashed wide open in third gear.
After tumbling to a stop, Fong’s Superbike caught fire.
The first person to respond to the scene was fellow Superbike racer Jeremy Coffey, who put out the fire with an extinguisher he took from a cornerworker station.
The sole cornerworker at the station stayed in place to display a warning flag to oncoming riders.
Fong escaped serious injury.
