Álex Rins: “My goal is making it to the Superprestigio class Finals”

Congratulations, Alex, for a 2015 season in very good shape. Second place in the FIM Moto2 World Championship. What’s your assessment of the season behind?

“The 2015 season was simply amazing. I never thought I could have the chance to clinch the runner-up spot at the very last race of the season. Moreover, I am lucky because I have had the opportunity to learn lots of things from great riders such as Tito Rabat and Johann Zarco”

You raced Superprestigio 1 in January 2014 but missed Superprestigio 2 in December. Please let us know your memories of your first participation in this event…

“All riders have a lot of fun when they are given the choice of some good slides in the Superprestigio! Last year I had an unavoidable appointment on the day of the event, but nothing will prevent me now from being right at the starting gate on the 12th of December!”

Do you feel any kind of pressure?

“Not at all. This race is kind of a special training session for me. The main goal is to have a good time with the same guys I battle with during the World Championship season, ha ha ha!”

Second place in Heat Race 2 and also second in your Last Chance Qualifier race. Good results, but not enough to make it to the Finals…

“I had tons of bad luck that day. I remember I led the field during the whole race but, on the very last corner of the very last lap, somebody hit me and I crashed. Start and first laps are crucial to clinch a good race result in dirt-track racing but you also need a clean race, of course”

Do you go training dirt-track during the season?

“Yeah, as soon as I have the chance to do it!”

What about the setup of the CRF450 Honda? Is it difficult?

“It is not easy at all. Setting up a bike you’re not familiar with can lead to a brain teaser”

What are your training plans from now on and until the 12th of December?

“A bunch of training sessions have been scheduled on the days before the event. I will be there and will work hard, as my goal is to race the Superprestigio class Finals”

Do you think you can even make it to the Superfinal race?

“Top riders in both the Superprestigio and the Open class ride powerful and very well-tuned bikes, so qualifying for the overall “top-8” is rather difficult. But well, as everybody knows, I never surrender…”

Surprised by the performance on the dirt of any of your fellow roadracers?

“I would say Marc Márquez and Kenny Noyes. Both are very good at dirt-track racing”
