Ride for Kids season wraps up in Mississippi, Texas

Two Ride for Kids events – one in Mississippi, the other in Texas – wrapped up the 2015 season.

More than 250 supporters didn’t let heavy rains from Hurricane Patricia dampen their spirits on Oct. 25 at the Mississippi Ride for Kids in Ridgeland or the San Antonio Ride for Kids in Adkins. Together they raised more than $54,000 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

Each event honored local brain tumor survivors as Ride for Kids Stars. These young people included Andrew, Chris, Matt, Prisca and Sutton in Ridgeland and Alexis, Heaven, Jocelyn and Mackenzi in Adkins.

Star Prisca, who’s now an adult, said doctors told her parents she wouldn’t live past age 5. “I had limited sight and many physical issues, but I never gave up and refused to quit,” she said. “Thanks to research, the doctors were able to save me, and now I am graduating from college.”

The events are still collecting donations online at www.rideforkids.org.
