Lescale on Top with the CMRA at Texas World Speedway
Carlos Lescale won the Formula 1 Expert race and logged two more podiums during the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) event this past Sunday, October 11, at Texas Motor Speedway in College Station, Texas.
A second day of sunny weather and temperatures in the low 90’s with a steady breeze made for great racing conditions on the 2.9 mile, 14-turn course, welcoming racers from as far away as Colorado, Missouri, and Mexico City.
Lescale rode his Team Mancuso Powersports Southwest-prepped, Dunlop-shod BMW S1000RR to the win in both Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert and RaceworX – A Superstock Expert.
James Camacho Jr was the strongest in the middleweights, taking three wins and an additional podium on his Yamaha YZF-R6, winning South Central Race Center – C Superstock Expert, C Superbike Expert, and taking second in B Superstock Expert. Camacho also turned the fastest lap of the day, running a blazing 1:44.300 on Lap 2 in the C Superstock Expert race.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert race promised to be exciting, with morning qualifying showing fast lap times. As the start lights went out, Brandon Young had the pole with his Suzuki GSX-R1000, with Lescale bearing down on him aboard his BMW S1000RR. Lescale took over the lead, with Conner Blevins riding a Kawasaki ZX636 and James Camacho Jr on his Yamaha YZF-R6 chasing him like angry bees. Blevins and Camacho also got around Young taking over second and third. Camacho put down the fastest lap of the race, turning a punishing 1:44.674 on Lap 6. Lescale turned a 1:44.676, and Blevins a 1:44.688, still edging Camacho. Eric Williams on his Yamaha YZF-R6 was going at it hammer and tongs with Jeff Wrobel aboard his Suzuki GSX-R1000 for fifth. Williams edged Wrobel, turning a 1:46.136 to Wrobel’s 1:46.156 to hold onto fifth.
The racing stayed close, and as the final laps wound down, Lescale stayed ahead of the two 600s nipping at his heels, taking the checkers for the win just 0.383 seconds ahead of second. Blevins held off Camacho and crossed the line second, Camacho held onto third, Young fourth, Williams in fifth, and Wrobel in sixth. Gordon Miller, Bobby Davies, Joseph Caruso, and Eric Monus rounded out the top 10. Blevins also won the $100 P1 Racing cash purse for riding the first 600 across the finish line again during the Formula 1 race.
Jacob Napier got the Top Novice spot, with four wins in OnRoad OffRoad Suspension – A Superstock Novice, North Texas Superbikes – A Superbike Novice, SpeedFreakDecals.com Formula 1 Novice, North Texas Superbikes – B Superbike Novice and Lone Star Track Days – B Superstock Novice on his Suzuki GSX-R750.
Brandie Cox won the “Jennifer Millsap Get it Girl” $100 award, sponsored by A.G. Horn, for her combined finishes in four races on her Suzuki GSX-R750.
