Team Caruso/Young and Pretty Hate Machine Top Winners Texas World Speedway with CMRA

The Joseph Caruso/Brandon Young team took the overall Team 60 win while the Pretty Hate Machine team of Jesse Davis, Nick Doolan, Justin McWilliams, Alan Phillips, and David Tiede brought home the win in 6-Hour Ultra-Lightweight Endurance this past Saturday, October 10 at Texas World Speedway. The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) began its 8th points paying round of the season on Saturday with a 6-Hour Ultra-Lightweight Endurance, Lightweight Sprints, and Team 60 race, bringing over 10 hours of racing action to 2.9- and 1.8 -mile courses in College Station, Texas. Sunny skies with temperatures in the high 80’s greeted competitors and the lap times stayed fast.

The Lightweight Sprint grids kicked off Saturday’s racing action, with the Altus Lawton Motorsports Superstock E, and Altus Lawton Motorsports Ultra Lightweight GP having almost 30 entries each, leading up to the 6-Hour Ultra-Lightweight Endurance race and its huge combined grid of 37 teams, with 500 Classic, 500 Superstock, Ultra Lightweight GP, E Superstock Endurance, and Formula 4 Endurance represented.

The lights went out and Team Von Hertell/Harris Hill’s riders Brandon Altmeyer, Jon Bell, John Branch, Keith Hertell, and Nick Montonaro riding a Honda CBR500R, took the early lead, holding off the MiniMotion team of Alonzo Contreras, Chris Headley, Jeff Hughes, and Ryan Max Johnson, and the Faltless Racing team of Robert Bradlaw, Danny Dominguez, Bill Erzal, Eric Falt, and Ted Phillips also on a Honda CBR500R. During Hour Two, Faltless Racing got by both MiniMotion and Team Von Hertell/Harris Hill to take over the lead. Meanwhile, the Pretty Hate Machine team, riding a Honda CBR500R, slipped around Team Von Hertell/Harris Hill to grab third, and stalked the race leaders. Going into Hour Three, Pretty Hate Machine took over the lead and held it, keeping MiniMotion firmly in second place, and Faltless Racing suffered a mechanical issue and dropped down the list. Lawpup Racing also riding a Honda CBR500R, pulled into third and held on. As the final laps wound down, Pretty Hate Machine crossed the line for the overall and 500 Superstock Endurance win, completing 171 laps. MiniMotion crossed next, taking second overall and second in 500 Superstock Endurance. The Lawpup Racing team of (Danny Dominguez/Britten Geary/Andy Gilliland/Jordan Pence) crossed in third overall and third in 500 Superstock Endurance.

The final race of the day was the Dunlop/Race Tire Service Team 60 race, and the popular LeMans-style start was used to start the 27 team grid at 5:30 in the afternoon.

The exciting action started with Cory Burleson, riding substitute on the Buckley/Montgomery team on his Suzuki GSX-R600, getting the early lead and holding it in front of the pack as lap times stayed below 1:50. The Duncan/Vigneau team (with substitute rider James Camacho Jr. for Duncan), would turn the fastest lap of the race on lap 11 with an impressive 1:46.170, but that only got them to fourth overall. As the rider switch approached, the sun dipped behind the grandstands, making visibility interesting on the second half of the course. Lap times stayed fast, and when Brandon Young took the swap for the team Caruso/Young, he put his head down and overtook the lead aboard his Suzuki GSX-R1000. The checkers dropped at 6:30 pm, with Young crossing the line first and taking the overall win and the win in Heavyweight, locking up the Heavyweight Championship. Team Galindo/Williams crossed next, finishing second overall and first in Middleweight. Team Davies/Orchard rode a Yamaha R6 across the line third overall, and second in Middleweight, clinching the Middleweight Championship.
