California native Jayson Uribe will join Meen Motorsports this weekend (July 17-19) at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to race alongside of MotoAmerica Superstock 600 series leader Joe Roberts as the MotoAmerica Series joins forces with the World Superbike World Championship. The 16-year-old Uribe returns to his home track hot off a Superstock 600 win in France a few weeks back. Jayson, who has also been on the podium for the past three races, hopes that he’ll be able to learn from his fellow countrymen and women, many of which he grew up racing against.
Jayson:
“I’ve never raced a 600 or come to think of it any production-based bike on a road course here in the U.S. I grew up racing 125s and 250s on the West Coast and moved to England three years ago to compete in the British Superbike Championship on a 125 and then on a Moto3. I am very excited to be able to race a great bike, with a great team, on an amazing track. I have no illusions about how tough it’s going to be this weekend. I simply want to learn as much as I can, work on my racecraft, run with some of my favorite riders and friends, and keep it on two wheels. I couldn’t be more grateful or excited to be working with Meen Motorsports! It’s truly an amazing opportunity and it is sure to be very helpful to my efforts in France. “I’ve known Jayson and his family for years. We all grew up racing very close to one another and we’ve kept an eye on him since he moved to Europe. It seems like he’s been on the podium for just about every European race he’s been in the past few seasons and we’re very excited to see how he does with us and against the MotoAmerica grid. There’s no pressure on him, however. Anytime you come into a championship late in the season, on an unfamiliar bike, with a new team and no testing, it’s going to be a very steep hill. He’s a great rider and a really good kid. We just want him to relax, enjoy himself and learn, as you never know what tomorrow will bring.”
Jayson comes to MotoAmerica from the French Superstock 600 Pirelli Cup where he rides for the standout, front-running Race Experience Junior Team. He will continue racing in the French Championship later in the summer after the current six-week break.
