Success for the privateer BMW Motorrad riders in WSBK, STK1000, BSB, CEV, SWC and AARR.

By claiming another podium in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, Roberto Tamburini re-takes the lead in the Race Trophy rankings – Strong outings by Ayrton Badovini and Markus Reiterberger in World Superbikes – Also success for the privateer BMW Motorrad riders in England, Spain and Croatia.

Munich (DE), 24th June 2015. Roberto Tamburini (IT) has re-taken the lead in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy. The Motoxracing rider claimed another podium in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup (STK1000) last weekend at Misano (IT). Privateer BMW Motorrad riders have also been successful in several other international series and world championships. Ayrton Badovini (IT) and wildcard starter Markus Reiterberger (DE) put in strong performances on their BMW S 1000 RR machines in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK). In the British Superbike Championship (BSB), Alastair Seeley (GB) and Hudson Kennaugh (ZA) raced to the podium, as did Iván Silva (ES) and Eeki Kuparinen (FI) in the FIM CEV Superbike European Championship (CEV). Pekka Päivärinta and Kirsi Kainulainen (FI) defended the overall lead in the FIM Sidecar World Championship (SWC) and Roland Resch (AT) and Michal Šembera (CZ) were victorious in the Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship (AARR).

2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.

The lead in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy has changed again: Roberto Tamburini (IT / STK 1000) re-took the top spot. He is the first rider to reach over the 200-points mark, having collected 212.00 Race Trophy points so far. Markus Reiterberger (DE / IDM SBK) dropped to second with 190.95 points. Roland Resch (AT / AARR SBK) improved to third with 181.33 points. The total number of participants has further increased: currently, 98 privateer BMW Motorrad riders from 66 different teams and 21 different nations have registered. (see full rankings below).

FIM Superbike World Championship in Misano, Italy.

The privateer BMW Motorrad riders put in convincing performances at the eighth round of the 2015 FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) in Misano (IT). For Ayrton Badovini (IT) and his BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team, it was the second home round of the season. They were consistently among the best teams all weekend. In Saturday’s Superpole, Badovini qualified eighth on the grid with his BMW S 1000 RR. In race one, he was successful in exciting battles and finished a strong seventh. In race two he was on his way to repeat this, when in the final stages the rear tyre grip dropped off and he was not able to attack anymore. He eventually crossed the line in 11th.

For Markus Reiterberger (DE) and his Van Zon-Remeha-BMW Team it was the first appearance on the world stage this year. Reiterberger contested one WSBK round back in 2013, but for 2015 it was their first of a total of three wildcard entries. Reiterberger and the team used the weekend to get acquainted with the world championship version of the BMW S 1000 RR. In race one, he struggled with tyre issues, as did many other riders, and finished 16th, just narrowly missing out on the points. For race two, the team had worked on the set-up again. This time, Reiterberger crossed the line in 13th, collecting world championship points. Gábor Rizmayer (HU) of BMW Racing Team Tóth finished both races in 21st, while his team-mate Imre Tóth (HU) was 22nd on both occasions.

FIM Superstock 1000 Cup in Misano, Italy.

In the race for the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup (STK1000), also held at Misano (IT), Roberto Tamburini (IT) thrilled the fans with a sensational comeback on his Motoxracing BMW S 1000 RR. In qualifying, a crash, a red flag and rain meant that Tamburini had to settle for ninth on the grid, despite the fact that he had been the fastest rider on track. In the race, he worked his way back towards the front with an exciting ride. He finished third, only 0.8 seconds behind the winner. If the race had lasted a few laps longer Tamburini would have had a good chance to win. With this podium finish, Tamburini kept the title fight open, being second overall with two races to go. Matthieu Lussiana (FR) was tenth on his Team ASPI BMW S 1000 RR. Wildcard rider Robert Muresan (RO / H-Moto Team) also finished in the points, crossing the line in 15th on his RR.

British Superbike Championship in Snetterton, Great Britain.

The privateer BMW Motorrad riders have also been successful at the fourth round of the British Superbike Championship 2015 (BSB) at Snetterton (GB). In the first race for the Superbike class (BSB SBK), Tommy Bridewell (GB) finished fourth on his Tyco BMW S 1000 RR. Peter Hickman (GB / RAF Reserves BMW) was 12th in the points. In race two, Bridewell’s Tyco BMW team-mate Michael Laverty was fourth, missing the podium by only 0.067 seconds. Bridewell finished fifth, while Billy McConnell (GB / Smiths Racing BMW) and Hickman scored points for 14th and 15th respectively. In the overall rankings, Bridewell is fifth. After nine rounds, the top six riders of the overall rankings will enter the “Showdown” for the title.

In the race for the Superstock class (BSB STK), three privateer BMW riders finished in the top-four. Alastair Seeley (GB / Tyco BMW) and Hudson Kennaugh (ZA / TrikMoto) were second and third on the podium, while Luke Quigley (GB / Formwise Washrooms / Bathams) crossed the line in fourth. Dominic Usher (GB) was ninth on his DU Racing BMW S 1000 RR.

FIM CEV Superbike European Championship in Barcelona, Spain.

After a long break, the 2015 FIM CEV Superbike European Championship (CEV) resumed with its third round of the season at Barcelona (ES). Iván Silva (ES) was second on the podium with his Targobank Motorsport BMW S 1000 RR. In the overall rankings, he improved to third. Adrian Bonastre (Boxmotos.com EasyRace SBK Team) was fourth. Eeki Kuparinen (FI / Motomarket Racing) crossed the line in sixth, claiming second place on the podium of the privateer class (CEV AM).

FIM Sidecar World Championship in Grobnik, Croatia.

The third round of the 2015 FIM Sidecar World Championship (SWC) was held in Grobnik in Croatia this weekend. Two races where held, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. The Finnish BMW duo Pekka Päivärinta / Kirsi Kainulainen (44-Racing) were second on the podium on both occasions. In doing so, they defended their lead in the overall world championship rankings. Uwe Gürck (DE) and Manfred Wechselberger (AT) from Polizei Sport Verein Wels finished both races in fourth.

Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship in Grobnik, Croatia.

At the third round of the 2015 Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship in Grobnik, Croatia, the BMW privateers claimed more vitcories for the BMW S 1000 RR. In the Superbike class (AARR SBK), overall leader Roland Resch (AT / Reitwagen-Racing) finished third on the podium in race one and took the win in race two. Lukáš Pešek (CZ / BMW Motorrad Czech) finished fourth and third, his team-mate Martin Choy (BG) was fifth and sixth. Janez Prosenik (SI) crossed the line in ninth and fourth.

In the Superstock class (AARR STK), the first race was held under wet conditions. Michal Prášek (CZ / Rohac and Fejta Motoracing Team) was fourth, Michal Šembera (CZ / WILLI Race Team) fifth. In the second race, in dry conditions, they claimed a one-two for the BMW S 1000 RR. Šembera won, with Prášek finishing second. The third privateer BMW Motorrad rider in the top four was Krasen Kanchev (BG / AIT Racing Team), who crossed the line in fourth.

2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy – Current Standings.

In 2015, the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy comprises a total of 19 international and national championships. Registration is possible until 30th June 2015. Participants in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy can once again compete in multiple championships in 2015. However, the points scored in the different championships are not added together, but are calculated separately for each individual race series. The current standings only include points from the race series in which the participant has scored the most Race Trophy points.
