Reiterberger takes lead in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy by claiming his next double win in SUPERBIKE*IDM – Strong performances at the Isle of Man and victories in Canada and France.

Markus Reiterberger dominates the IDM weekend at Nürburgring – Privateer BMW Motorrad riders show their speed on the Isle of Man – Jordan Szoke wins the CSBK season opener on his RR – Success also in FR EU.

Munich (DE), 17th June 2015. The lead in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy has changed again: last year’s winner Markus Reiterberger (DE) has taken the top spot in the rankings this week. The Van Zon-Remeha-BMW rider keeps dominating the SUPERBIKE*IDM (IDM) and celebrated another double win at the Nürburgring (DE). The Isle of Man TT (IOMTT) concluded with the prestigious Senior TT where BMW riders impressed with their speed. Jordan Szoke (CA) rode his BMW S 1000 RR to victory at the season opener of the Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK) and in the French European Bikes Championship (FR EU), the BMW Motorrad privateers took five of the six possible podiums. In the Italian CIV, Roberto Tamburini (IT) claimed another podium with his RR. In addition, BMW riders have also been in action in South Africa and the US.

2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.

The top positions in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy rankings are fiercely fought: this week again sees a new number one. Last year’s winner Markus Reiterberger (DE / IDM SBK) is the new leader with 190.95 points after claiming a double win at the IDM round at Nürburgring (DE). Roberto Tamburini (IT / STK1000) dropped to second with 180.00 points. Tamburini scored a podium last weekend in the Italian CIV, but, as he is currently even more successful in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, the results from this series count towards the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy. Matthieu Lussiana (FR / MT1GP) is currently third with 177.78 points. The total number of participants has further increased: currently, 96 privateer BMW Motorrad riders from 65 different teams and 21 different nations have registered. (see full rankings below).

SUPERBIKE*IDM at the Nürburgring, Germany.

Markus Reiterberger (DE) seems to be unstoppable in the International German Championship SUPERBIKE*IDM (IDM). He also dominated the fourth round of the season at the Nürburgring (DE), claiming pole-position and winning both races on his Van Zon-Remeha-BMW S 1000 RR. It was his third double victory of the year. In the eight races contested so far this season, Reiterberger has won seven times and finished runner-up once. In the championship standings of the elite Superbike class (IDM SBK) he now leads with 195 points and extended his advantage over his next rival to 55 points. Next weekend, Reiterberger will be in action in the FIM World Superbike Championship (WSBK) at Misano (IT), as the first of his three wildcard entries in 2015.

For his Van Zon-Remeha-BMW team-mate, Bastien Mackels (BE), the season just started at the Nürburgring after he was forced to miss the first rounds due to an injury. Mackels had to retire in race one after his RR was hit by another rider, but finished a strong fourth in race two. Matej Smrz (CZ / Wilbers-BMW-Racing Team) also crashed in the first race. In the second heat, he crossed the line in seventh (sixth in the Superbike class).

In the Superstock class (IDM STK), two privateer BMW Motorrad riders stepped onto the podium. In race one, Pepijn Bijsterbosch (NL / Van Zon-Remeha-BMW) was third, while in race two Dominik Vincon (DE) finished second with his BMW Stilgenbauer BMW S 1000 RR. Lucy Glöckner (DE), who had claimed a podium finish at the previous round at the Lausitzring (DE), had bad luck: the Wilbers-BMW rider had to retire from the weekend when she suffered a shoulder injury in a crash on Saturday morning. Isle of Man TT, Isle of Man.

With the prestigious Senior TT, this year’s Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (IOMTT) has come to an end. The privateer BMW Motorrad riders showed strong performances and incredibly high speeds on their BMW S 1000 RRs, but were denied the chance to transfer them into podium honours. Michael Dunlop (GB / Buildbase BMW), who had finished second just a few days before in the Superstock TT, and Guy Martin (GB / Tyco BMW) were in the leading group when the race had to be red-flagged after two laps.

After the re-start, both of them dropped positions but worked their way back through the field setting impressive lap times on their RRs. Both Dunlop and Martin where among a total of only five riders to go an average speed of over 132 mph. Martin finished fourth, while Dunlop crossed the line in fifth. Three more privateer BMW Motorrad riders came home within the top-ten: Peter Hickman (GB / Briggs Equipment UK BMW) in seventh, David Johnson (AU / Smiths Racing) in ninth and Michael Rutter (GB / Penz13.com Bathams) in tenth.

In total, there have been two podiums for the BMW S 1000 RR at this year’s IOMTT: In the Superstock TT, Michael Dunlop finished second and Lee Johnston (GB / ECR Burdens) was third, stepping onto the IOMTT podium for the first time in his career. In this Superstock race, no less than five BMW S 1000 RRs crossed the line within the top-7. In both the Superbike TT and the Senior TT, half of the first ten places went to BMW riders, with five of them finishing in the top-10.

Canadian Superbike Championship at Calabogie, Canada.

Multiple Canadian Superbike champion Jordan Szoke (CA) started the 2015 season in style: he was victorious at the curtain raiser of the 2015 Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK) at Calabogie Motorsports Park (CA). In a thrilling race, Szoke took the win on his BMW S 1000 RR with a margin of 0.255 seconds to his closest rival. Two more privateer BMW Motorrad riders finished within the top-five: Michael Leon (CA) was fourth and Sean Huffmann (CA) fifth.

French Superbike Championship at Lédenon, France.

Lédenon (FR) hosted the fourth round of the French Superbike Championship (FSBK) and the French European Bikes Championship (FR EU) last weekend. In FSBK, currently two privateers fly the flag for BMW Motorrad. Nicolas Pouhair (FR / MSC Courneuvien 93) finished seventh and eighth overall (fourth and fifth in the EVO class). Emeric Jonchière (FR / ERT BMW Motorrad Club France) had to settle with 19th overall (14th in the Superstock class) in race one after he had gone through the gravel. In race two, he was 11th (sixth in Superstock).

In the races for the FR EU, five of the six possible podium finishes went to the BMW S 1000 RR. In race one, Cyril Brunet-Lugardon (FR / Gers Moto Vitesse Ordannaise) was second and Benjamin Colliaux (FR / Team CMS – R2T) third. In total, eight privateer BMW Motorrad riders finished within the top-ten. In race two, they were even more successful, claiming all top five positions for the RR. The podium was shared by winner Cyril Brunet-Lugardon, his brother and team-mate Florian Brunet-Lugardon (FR), who was second, and third placed Michel Amalric (FR / GD Performance).

Italian Superbike Championship at Mugello, Italy.

Roberto Tamburini (IT) had another successful outing with his Motoxracing BMW S 1000 RR in the Italian Superbike Championship (CIV). At the race weekend at Mugello (IT), he finished second on the podium in Saturday’s first race. On Sunday however, he struggled with conditions in the second race, which was held on a partly wet track after a heavy rain shower. He came home 12th. Privateer BMW Motorrad riders claimed two more top-five positions at Mugello: Denni Schiavoni (IT / 2R Racing) was fifth in the first race, Alessio Corradi (IT / DMR Racing Team) crossed the line in this position in race two.

South African SuperGP Champions Trophy at Delmas, South Africa.

Redstar Raceway near Delmas (ZA) hosted the fourth round of the 2015 South African SuperGP Champions Trophy (RSA SBK GP) last weekend. Nicholas Kershaw (ZA / Tsunami Beach Bar BMW) finished fifth in both races with his BMW S 1000 RR. Lance Isaacs (ZA) was unlucky in race one and crashed heavily. He defied the pain of an injured ankle in race two and crossed the line in sixth with his Black Swan Energy BMW S 1000 RR to collect more important championship points.

MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Series at Barber Motorsports Park, US.

Three privateer BMW Motorrad riders took to the track at Barber Motorsports Park (US) for the fifth round of the MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Series (AMA). In the Superbike class (AMA SBK), Matthew Orange (US / OC Racing) finished the two races in ninth and tenth. In the Superstock class (AMA STK), Stefan Dolipski (DE / TSE Racing) was ninth and tenth, while Jeremy Cook (US / Dead Presidents Racing) came home in tenth and 11th.

2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy – Current Standings.

In 2015, the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy comprises a total of 19 international and national championships. Registration is possible until 30th June 2015. Participants in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy can once again compete in multiple championships in 2015. However, the points scored in the different championships are not added together, but are calculated separately for each individual race series. The current standings only include points from the race series in which the participant has scored the most Race Trophy points.
