DOUBLE VICTORY FOR TYCO BMW AT OULTON PARK

A double victory for Tyco BMW at Oulton Park was the perfect May Day tonic for the Northern Ireland based team. Tommy Bridewell’s opening race Superbike victory and Alastair Seeley’s Pirelli National Superstock 1000 series top step was a first for both on BMW Motorrad machinery this season.

Unfortunately Bridewell crashed out of the lead in race two, but with other leading contenders also failing to finish, the Wiltshire racer’s victory moves him up to fifth place in the championship standings. Michael Laverty was eighth in race one on his Tyco BMW S 1000 RR but fought bravely to fourth in the second encounter. He also moves up in the championship standings to seventh just 13 points behind his team-mate.

Tommy Bridewell: “It was great to get the first win on the Tyco BMW, but hell I had to work hard for it. I knew Brookesy was there and was expecting to see a red bike on the last couple of laps but I think we were stronger in the second part of the lap and I’m delighted to be back on the podium and winning races. The second race is disappointing as I really did feel I could break them and did nothing different from race one and slipped off. Despite that I’m leaving Oulton full of confidence as we now have a Tyco BMW that I know is going to be competitive at all rounds, so the championship campaign really did begin for me this weekend. The boys in the team deserve praise for all the hard work and late nights, but I know they are also pleased we are now where we belong in this championship – fighting for wins.”

Michael Laverty: “This weekend was a huge step in the right direction for me. We found a fundamental problem that has been the root of all my issues in between races today, so race two was like starting with a new bike. I may have got a lucky fourth with a few crashing out, but I am a happy man tonight because I’m confident I will be in a position to fight for wins from here on in. It’s been a frustrating opening three rounds but it’s nice that we now have the answers. Congratulations to Tommy and Alastair on their wins today. They both showed what what the Tyco BMW S 1000 RR is capable of.”

Alastair Seeley: ‘This weekend was the perfect boost prior to the North West 200 and I think I answered the questions with my pole position and the win, would I be holding back before going to Portrush. The Tyco BMW S1000RR is feeling more like my bike every time I ride it, and having watched Tommy winning today on the Superbike is confidence inspiring heading to the NW200 next week. Thanks to the team for another big effort and the big crowd of sponsors and fans for turning out to support us.”

Philip Neill: “All together this was a morale boosting round for everyone at Tyco BMW. Our weekend started in perfect fashion with William winning the Tandragee 100 Road Race and our BSB boys certainly didn’t disappoint.

“Tommy ran at the sharp end all weekend and when it came to racing he really showed his ability and the strength of the BMW Motorrad S1000RR. Without a slow speed slip off in race two he may well have left Oulton with a double victory.

“Michael is slowly building confidence as he finds the ideal set up with the BMW S1000RR and a key change for race two appears to have boosted his confidence further. We know he is much better than the current results have shown and fourth in race two is a good indicator of the progress he and his team have made. It surely won’t be long before we witness Michael’s full potential.

Easton Takes Victory, Byrne On Podium At Oulton Park

The Penrith-based PBM Racing Team endured varying fortunes at round three of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship held at Oulton Park in Cheshire this May bank holiday weekend but still came away with a win and a podium.

Leading the way with a fantastic victory was Scotsman Stuart Easton who took a dramatic win in today’s second 18 lap race following on his fourth place finish in the opening encounter but for team-mate Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, his podium in race one was followed by being taken out by a crashing Ryuichi Kiyonari in the latter stages of race two when challenging for the win.

It was Easton who had the better start position for today’s opening race in third place on the grid with reigning champion Byrne two places further back. At the end of the first lap, it was Sittingbourne rider Byrne who had moved up to third with Easton, from Hawick, in fourth. As the race progressed, eventually it was four-times champion Shakey who grabbed the final rostrum position with Easton right in his wheel tracks in fourth.

Easton was again in third placed on the grid for the second race with Byrne in fourth and both were part of a terrific five-rider battle for the lead for the majority of the 18 laps. Byrne overcame a relatively poor start, which saw him back in fifth at the end of the first lap, to move into second on lap four and although he briefly hit the front at half race distance, it was regular sparring partner Ryuichi Kiyonari who led for much of the race. However, in the closing stages it looked as if Byrne was going to turn the tables but it all went wrong on lap 16 when Kiyonari overcooked it on the brakes going into Hizzy’s and crashed out, taking Shakey with him.

Easton, who had sat in third place for much of the race, duly took over in the lead and despite coming under intense pressure from James Ellison and Josh Brookes on the final lap, he held on for his first Superbike win in five years. The results from the two races mean that Ellison now leads the championship with Byrne eight points adrift in second and Easton holding on to a strong fourth.

The third PBM team member, Ian Hutchinson, was having his final outing prior to the International road racing season which gets underway next week with the North West 200, and had another profitable weekend taking 23rd and 24th places from the two races.

Shane Byrne: “The temperature on race day threw a bit of a spanner in the works as the harder tyre works better in cooler conditions and with the track temperature going up considerably today it made for an interesting first race. It was a difficult race but I managed to take third and the team did a mega job so we were able to look at the data and make a few changes for race two. I felt a lot stronger and even though there was nothing between the five of us, I felt good going into the last few laps. Kiyo made a small mistake which resulted in both of us crashing but these things happen in racing and no one will be more disappointed than Kiyo so it’s onwards and upwards to the next round.”

Stuart Easton: “With a fourth and first from the two races, it’s been a good weekend all round and whilst I was a little bit fortunate to take the win after Shakey and Kiyo went down, we were all evenly matched and we were all looking to put moves on each other. I’d got by Shakey in the race already and although Kiyo was quick out of the corners he was also holding us up in some areas. I feel like I’m riding well and my side of the garage is working well but there’s still room for improvement. I’ve picked up some podium credits this weekend as well so I’ll keep taking my chances when they come and look to maintain my consistency.”

Ian Hutchinson: “It’s been another good weekend for me and it’s been the perfect preparation for the road racing season. I’ve done more competitive riding than any other season, putting in more laps than ever before at all of the circuits and setting personal best laps everywhere too so I can’t have asked for any more. It’s quite a fine line riding fast but staying out of trouble as well but I’ve achieved everything I wanted and can’t wait for the North West 200 and TT.”

Paul Bird, Team Owner: “Oulton isn’t always the best circuit for the Kawasaki but we’ve been strong all weekend and are looking strong from a championship perspective too. We’ve got both riders running at the front and are the only team to have two riders in the top six at present so I’m feeling pretty happy. There was a possibility of a 1-2 in the second race so Shakey’s crash was unfortunate and Kiyo will be as disappointed as anyone. We’d set Stuart the target of race wins this season so to achieve that at round three is brilliant. We’ve also given Hutchy the perfect foundation for the roads and he’s in the perfect frame of mind so we’re all looking forward to that part of our season now.”

Brookes and Milwaukee Yamaha claim double podium finish at Oulton Park

Josh Brookes claimed a double podium finish for the Milwaukee Yamaha team at the third round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, moving to within 15 points of the standings lead.

In the opening race Brookes was fighting for the win but had to settle for second place, just 0.160s adrift at the finish line. It was a disappointing opening race for Broc Parkes who was collected by another rider at the Hizzys Chicane, leaving him crashing out of contention.

In race two Brookes was again challenging in the leading pack for the podium finish with the podium line-up going down to the wire. Brookes was pushing the pair ahead of him and claimed his fifth top three finish from six races in third place. Parkes meanwhile had to try and battle through the order, feeling sore after his race one crash, to end in 22nd place.

“In the first race I bodged up the lights a bit at the start of the race. I don’t know why, but everything seemed to go into slow motion. I saw them go out, but I just didn’t go, it just didn’t happen and I had three riders around me. I just floated into the first corner and took an ideal line and it gave me the lead which was really lucky. I got away with it I guess!

“I was trying to force Tommy [Bridewell] to make a mistake but then I started to lose a bit of grip so I had to change my plan. I was trying to maintain the lap time and there wasn’t an opportunity to take an advantage.

“I was pleased to get third in race two; in general I made a few mistakes at the start and I thought I was going good but everyone was riding so well. Everyone at the front doesn’t normally make mistakes and if we do it is a crash, so I sat there at the back waiting to make a mistake or force a pass but it never showed. With Kiyo and Shakey going down it gifted me the third position and I will take it, it is too hard to get results in this championship so I am pleased with third.”

Broc Parkes

R1: Crash, R2: 22nd

“It’s not been a great day for me today. I got a good start to the first race but then got t-boned by another rider into Hizzys. He just hit me and then the bike was badly damaged which meant the boys had to fix it all up but then we had a few problems in the second race, but we need to check the data. As for me, my body has taken two beatings this weekend and both times I have been up in the air and landing on my shoulder and back. I felt sore in race two but I did my best – it has just been a disaster of a weekend. I want to look forward now to the test at Snetterton.”

Team manager Mick Shanley

“It’s been quite a positive weekend for Josh and for the project as a whole. We are happy with the way things have gone over the first three rounds. We now have five weeks before the next round to understand where we are and where we want to be and there will be a lot of work done before the Snetterton test and the races at Snetterton.

“Broc had various issues and it was a tough weekend for him. He was taken out in the first race and that caused issues for the second race. We need to go back to basics and find out how we can help him.”

Oulton Victory For Dixon

The Gloucester-based Smiths Racing Team were at Oulton Park, Cheshire over this bank holiday weekend contesting the MCE British Superbike and Motorpoint British Supersport Championships whereby Jake Dixon gave them their second win of the season after a superb victory in today’s Supersport race on the factory-backed Triumph Daytona 675R.

It salvaged the weekend for the Dover rider after being the victim of another rider’s crash in the opening ‘Sprint’ race yesterday, crashing out whilst he was lying in fourth place. It looked like he’d finish in a similar position today but a safety car period meant the race all came down to a four-lap dash to the flag. With five riders in close contention, it became one of the races of the season and Jake took full advantage of Andy Reid’s mistake on the penultimate lap to hit the front for the first time. Despite coming under intense pressure on the final lap, he held on to take a brilliant second win of the season.

MCE British Superbike Championship team-mate Billy McConnell qualified his Smiths Racing BMW in tenth place for today’s opening BSB race but his hopes of a good result were dashed on the opening lap when he slipped back to 17th after a coming together with another rider. With lap times amongst the riders being so close, gaining places proved to be a tough task but the reigning British Supersport champion from Adelaide battled hard until the end and was rewarded with 14th place and two hard earned championship points.

Back on the fourth row for the second race, The Aussie had a much more enjoyable race second time around on the BMW S1000RR and by the fourth lap he was up to tenth. Riding on his own for much of the race, it looked like this would be where he’d finish but with Shane Byrne and Ryuichi Kiyonari crashing out with two laps to go, he was elevated to eighth place at the flag meaning he holds an impressive 12th overall after the first three rounds.

The team expanded to three riders for the weekend with David Johnson contesting the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship race prior to racing the bike at the Isle of Man TT Races. The Adelaide rider enjoyed a strong meeting and after qualifying on the front row, he finished in a good fifth place after overcoming a problem early on in the race with his brakes.

Billy McConnell: “It’s been another weekend of ups and downs which is to be expected being a rookie rider in BSB again and with the team having their first taste of the premier class. We are loving every minute of it and although race one didn’t go to plan, I salvaged a result to get a few more points on the board. The second race went a lot better and although I was catching the riders in front of me battling for sixth I ultimately ran out of laps. I’m struggling a bit with my confidence mid race so I’ll be looking to fix this in time for the next round. I’ve got a great bike under me and am with a great team so we’re certainly heading in the right direction.”

Jake Dixon: “To end the weekend with a win is brilliant and the safety car period definitely helped me. I got duffed up a bit at the beginning and had to play catch up but was closing into the front three riders so when we bunched up again, I was in a lot better position. I made a small mistake on the final lap at Druids but braked as late as I could for the final corner and held on. Yesterday’s race was as much my fault as anyone else’s. The bike was working perfectly but I lost my rhythm a bit and slipped back into the group battling for fourth, which I shouldn’t have done. I started getting held up and lost my focus a bit so I needed to regroup for today’s race and so many people helped me out so it’s great to repay them with a win.”

David Johnson: “I felt really good in today’s race and was confident of a podium but unfortunately I had a problem with the brakes on one lap and it took me a while to readjust them and get going again. I was back in sixth but regrouped and made up about five seconds to get up to fifth, which would have been fourth had the red flag not come out. The bike was flying and it felt great to be running at the front again so thanks to the team for all their work this weekend.”

Rebecca Smith, Team Manager: “Jake had good pace all weekend although he did have a few issues with the set-up and there’s room for improvement from both him and the bike so we can overcome these sooner over the course of the three days. Yesterday’s race was unfortunate and very much a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time but he put himself under pressure during the race and knew what he needed to do to prevent that happening today. He did exactly that and whilst the safety car undoubtedly helped him, he was the one that grabbed his opportunity. Billy had a small off at the beginning of the weekend which put us on the back foot a bit and we’re trying so many different things to improve the bike, it’s difficult trying to get everything done. We’re battling away though and he worked as hard as ever and to end with a good eighth was very satisfying. It was also good to give David a run out on the Superstock bike prior to the TT so we’re all looking forward to going back to the Isle of Man to see what we can do there.”

Oulton Park – Round 3

The Be Wiser Kawasaki team had a varied weekend at round three of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park. Chris Walker was again super consistent throughout the weekend scoring some solid Championship points, with an 11th in race one and ninth in race two. Danny Buchan was unfortunate to crash out of race one and was 17th in the second race.

Chris dug deep and worked hard all weekend to find a good set up on the Be Wiser Kawasaki, having missed the test last week the team were playing catch up on Saturday with both riders to find a suitable set up for the demanding track.

During practice both rider made huge improvements on their time and performance, the pair were keen to get out for the Datatag Superpole on Sunday. Chris and Danny both made it through to qualifying two and Chris just missed out on the last session, seeing him start from 11th on the grid for race one. Danny got through to the final session and started from ninth place.

Chris got a solid start and was 10th after the opening lap; Danny got caught up in the first lap melee and was pushed wide onto the grass on the opening lap. Re-grouping he had dropped some places and was pushing hard to make amends but crashed out at the fast Druids corner, uninjured. Chris battled hard again and was racing a lonely race to finish in 11th.

Danny dropped six places on the grid for race two and started from 15th place, with Chris starting in 12th. Chris moved through to 11th after lap one, he worked hard to get through to a top ten finishing position and finished the 18-lap race in ninth. Danny was struggling a little throughout the race and dropped backwards slightly through the pack but brought the Be Wiser Kawasaki home in 17th place.

Chris Walker – “I am fairly pleased with the weekend here at Oulton Park we still have a lot of changes to make and plenty of promise to move forwards. We were a little on the back foot here as most of the teams tested the week before but we are doing the two day test at Snetterton in a couple of weeks.

The first race was pretty good but I was riding around on my own for most of it, we have made some good changes and the team are working really hard all the time to make strong improvements in each session. The second race was going well but about five laps in I had a malfunction with my electrics so the bike was doing things it wasn’t meant to be doing. I managed to re-group and ride around the problems but that at that point I’d lost positions and they had pulled too much of a gap for me to be able to do anything about it.”

Danny Buchan – “It was another really tough and frustrating weekend, everything was going so well in practice and qualifying and I felt really happy on the Be Wiser Kawasaki. It was a bit of carnage on the first lap of the race and I got pushed onto the grass, I lost my focus and sadly crashed out a couple of corners later.

I struggled a little in the second race; I just wanted to bring the bike home in one piece. I am looking forward to testing at Snetterton and hopefully coming back stronger there. I want to get some consistent top ten results at the remaining rounds and I am just sorry to the team for the crash and want to give them a good result too.”

Tommy Hill – Team Manager – “We had a really good start to the weekend and we were playing catch up a little as many of the teams had tested here the week before. Both Chris and Danny were riding really well and were making good progress in every session.

There are always going to be three or four riders that are in a different league at each track but if we can fight for the middle to sharp end then it is a step in the right direction. We were doing that this weekend and both riders had good qualifying sessions and were keen for a strong race.

It is unfortunate for Danny, he is trying really hard to get a good result, I have been there myself where you really want to do well. He is so eager and keen but it is important that we get him settled this year and build his confidence and help push him forward next season. We know he is fast he just needs to string it all together and it will be fine, this year is a learning year for him and he is one of the youngest riders out there in a very tough Championship.

Chris as always just gets on with things, works really hard and digs deep to get some concrete results. He is constantly making developments to his bike that suit him and this is making a big difference on his times. Once again he brought the Be Wiser Kawasaki home in two good points scoring positions.”

Strong weekend at Oulton for Quattro Plant Kawasaki

Oulton Park in Cheshire was the venue for the third round of the MCE British Superbike Championship over the Bank Holiday weekend and it proved to be a strong meeting for the Quattro Plant Kawasaki team with two more top ten finishes for Howie Mainwaring-Smart accompanied by more points for class rookie Luke Mossey.

It was Aylesbury-based Mainwaring-Smart who fared best in qualifying, taking 12th on the grid for Monday’s opening 18-lap race whilst Mossey had to start a significant distance further back in 22nd after an electrical issue hindered his progress and it was the former who enjoyed the better fortunes.

The 28-year old immediately moved into the top ten when the race got underway and although he got pushed pack to 12th at mid-race distance, he regrouped well to claim a good ninth at the chequered flag. Luke, meanwhile, was running in 18th for much of the race only to run into the same problems that had affected him in qualifying in the closing stages and retire with four laps to go.

The second race was better for all concerned though and Howie was running comfortably inside the top ten throughout. Sixth in the early stages of the races, he did get pushed back to eighth but when race leaders Ryuichi Kiyonari and Shane Byrne crashed out with two laps to go he was elevated back to sixth and it was here where he finished for his fourth successive top ten finish.

The results have moved him up to ninth overall, just five points behind sixth placed Jason O’Halloran and it was a strong end to the weekend all round as Luke battled all the way to the end with proven race winners Chris Walker and Josh Waters to claim a good 13th place.

Howie Mainwaring-Smart: “It was one of my best qualifying performances of the season so I felt a bit unlucky to miss out on the top ten but the races went well for me and it was good to grab a decent haul of points again. I’m still learning each time I go out on the bike but the more top ten finishes we can get, the further we can progress as I’m riding with the right people. The team are working so hard and giving me a great bike but it really is tough this year as the lap times have moved on to a new level. I’m setting personal bests everywhere we go but I’m finding some good consistency now and am feeling fit and strong so we’ll keep chipping away.”

Luke Mossey: “It was a hard weekend as we had trouble with the bike all weekend so to finally have a trouble free run in the second race and get a solid finish under my belt and more points on the board was pleasing. The problems were no-ones fault at all and the team are doing a mega job whilst I’m also pleased with how I’m riding so I’ll work hard between now and the next round at Snetterton and look at climbing the results sheets there.”

Pete Extance, Team Owner: “Overall, it’s been a very pleasing weekend for Quattro Plant Kawasaki and both riders performed well throughout. Howie had another two excellent results and fought hard in both races to finish ninth and sixth so it’s good to see him finding some good, solid consistency. It bodes well and although it’s early days, he’s holding onto a good ninth overall and only a few points off that all important top six.”

“Luke had electrical issues for much of the weekend which left him with a poor grid position in race one and, unfortunately, the problems continued. However, he battled hard in the second race and was only four seconds adrift of Howie in sixth so it was good to see him finish so well and get more points on the board. The whole team has worked hard all weekend so many thanks to all of our sponsors, especially Quattro Plant, and we’ll now look forward to the North West 200 and TT.”

The team now turn their attentions to the International road racing season with James Hillier again contesting the North West 200 (May 12-16) and the Isle of Man TT Races (May 30-June 12th).

Luke Mossey and the Quattro Plant TECcare Kawasaki team had tough weekend at round three of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park. Luke was trouble during qualifying and race one with a technical problem and was forced to retire from the first race. He fought back in race two and finished in a comfortable 13th place.

Luke was looking forward to Oulton Park as it is a track he enjoys and that he has had some good results at in the past. It was a tricky weekend for the youngster from Cambridge as the heavens opened on Saturday and he has never ridden the Superbike in wet conditions, at a very tough circuit he found it hard to adjust to.

Qualifying was dry and he wanted to get a good grid position but a problem with the quick-shifter forced him to miss some valuable track time, so he started the race from 22nd place. The team worked hard over night and the problem was solved for warm-up but re-appeared in the race, forcing him to retire to the pit garage. He moved up to 19th place on the grid for race two, he really had to work hard through the race and with some consistent lap times he pulled his way through to 13th at the end of the 18-lap race.

Luke Mossey – “I knew this year would be tough but I never realised how tough, I have been told this is one of the most competitive years in a long time. The times are really close and everyone has upped their game. The lap times down the pack have improved with everyone from last year so for a learner like me I think I’ve been thrown in at the deep end, I do believe it is the best way to learn though.

Every time I go out on the Quattro Teccare Kawasaki I learn something new, a new line, a new way to ride and I am trying to learn the trade as fast as possible without making any stupid mistakes. The series is tough and the power difference and even riding style compared to a Supersport machine is massive.

Despite the results I am really enjoying it and I know I just have to work hard this year and absorb everything as fast as I possibly can and just keep improving as the year progresses. I know it won’t happen overnight but I couldn’t ask for a more supportive team than the Quattro team, everyone really has helped me and I want to do well for them.

The problem on the bike was just one of those things, it could have happened at any track any time but we got some good race distance under our belt which set us up for race two. I felt more relaxed for this, got a good start and learnt even more. I am actually really happy to get a couple of Championship points as it’s a packed grid this year. I will be working hard and training well in the break and look forward to getting to Snetterton. Third successive top six finish for Jenkinson and NEI Yamaha

Adam Jenkinson and the Northern Escalator Installations team were back in Pirelli National Superstock 1000cc Championship action over the weekend with Oulton Park playing host to round three and the Knutsford rider came away from his local circuit with a solid sixth place finish.

With the opening qualifying session on Saturday being held in wet conditions, grid position for the race was determined by the second and final session on Sunday afternoon when the Cheshire venue enjoyed much more favourable weather. As it was though, it proved to be a tough 25 minutes for Adam and the team and whilst sixth place and the second row was a solid performance, the gap to pole man Alastair Seeley was some 1.3s.

With the standard Yamaha R1M suffering a speed deficit to the BMW and Kawasaki machines, it left them with considerable work to do around the high-speed circuit for Monday’s 15-lap race but a good start meant Adam was in touch with the leading group at the end of the first lap. The front three riders soon made a break though and Adam became embroiled in a battle for fourth alongside the BMWs of Luke Quigley and David Johnson.

It was clear that Adam was quicker through the corners and the twisty sections of the course but Quigley and Johnson were able to use their superior top end speed along the straights and as the race entered its final third, Adam had been pushed back to sixth. Any hopes of making a final lap challenge for fourth disappeared when a red flag ended the race prematurely on the 12th lap. Nevertheless, it maintained his run of top six finishes in the opening three rounds and sees him lying in a strong fourth place overall.

Adam Jenkinson: “It’s been a bit of a frustrating meeting for me as I’ve been up against it with the other riders having better top end speed. We’re still waiting for a few parts to come through and when they do, I’m confident we’ll be challenging for the race wins. I don’t want to be battling for fourth place but the chassis is working really well and the handling of the bike is brilliant so I know when things come together, I’ll be at the sharp end. In the race itself, I made a good start and was soon up to fourth but I couldn’t pull a gap on Quigley or Johnson even though I was riding the wheels off the bike through the corners. It’s another solid finish and more points on the board but fourth would have been a lot better than sixth so we’ll keep working hard and look to close the gap to the leaders next time out.”

The next round sees the series head back to Donington Park, supporting the World Superbike Championship meeting on May 22-24.

Superb second for Nutt at Oulton

Oulton Park, Cheshire was the venue for Marty Nutt’s second Ducati TriOptions Cup meeting of the 2015 season and it proved to be an excellent weekend for the Penso/Ducati Coventry/Nutttravel.com rider with a runners-up spot in the solitary race enabling him to move up to second overall in the Championship table.

A wet qualifying session on Saturday meant that the Castlerock rider lined up in seventh place on the grid for Sunday’s 10-lap race but conditions were perfect when the lights turned green and a good start saw him up to third at the end of the opening lap. A lap later he was up to second and right on the back of race leader Leon Morris but although he briefly hit the front on lap five, his biggest battle came in the latter stages when Rob Guiver caught and overtook him. The Essex rider made a mistake on the final lap though and it allowed Marty to re-take second place just holding his rival off on the run in to the line.

With the third fastest lap of the race, Marty started from the front row for Monday’s scheduled 12-lap race but the first attempt at starting the race had to be aborted. Second time around, Sean Neary’s bike dropped fluid on the track and although the race was rescheduled for later in the day, it was ultimately cancelled and will be re-arranged for later in the year.

Marty Nutt: “I was really looking forward to this weekend’s races as I was expecting them to be close fought affairs and Sunday’s didn’t disappoint. I got a good start and managed to get by Leon at one stage but went down one gear instead of two for the Foulston’s chicane and with better drive out, he managed to re-pass me straightaway. It unsettled me a bit and it took me a lap to get into my rhythm again, which I did only to make a wee mistake at Cascades. It allowed Rob to come by and I was annoyed as I didn’t want to finish third after being in second for so long. Fortunately for me, Rob then ran on at Hizzy’s and it allowed to get by him again to finish in a good second.”

“I was hoping for more of the same on Monday but with all the stoppages and problems it wasn’t meant to be. As it is, Sunday’s result has allowed me to close to within five points of Dennis (Hobbs) so it’s definitely been a case of so far so good.”

The next round takes place in three week’s time at Donington Park, Leicestershire on the weekend of May 22-24.

Mason Law’s victory in today’s Pirelli National Superstock 600cc race at Oulton Park helped the NMT No Limits Kawasaki rider extend his series lead after three rounds to 33 points.

The win didn’t come easy for the Benfleet lad, who was forced to battle through the pain barrier following a mid-week training incident. Law also set the fastest lap of the race en route to his convincing victory.

Mason Law:

“I had a training accident last Sunday having too much fun at the Olympic Mountain Bike Park. I landed flat on my shoulder blades and pelvis. I did train normally during the week but in the first free practice session I found it hard to stop the bike. I had two treatments every day and the circuit physiotherapists did a fantastic job and played a big part in getting me on the podium this weekend.

“When I got out front today I eased off a bit as I didn’t want to push extremely hard and make a mistake, and the incident behind helped me get a decent gap. I put in a late stint in to set the lap record, which was very pleasing.”

17-year-old Taz Taylor from Mansfield riding for the RS Racing KTM team had a stunning weekend at round three of the HEL Performance Motostar British Championship at Oulton Park where he took a fantastic race win, winning the race comfortably by 4.5 seconds from his nearest rival.

Taz was looking strong all weekend in the Motostar class and slowly built his way up during the mixed weather conditions on Saturday during practice. He was ready for qualifying on Sunday and in the first session he was 1.3 seconds faster than second placed man and in the second session he set pole position by 0.6 from Ed Rendell.

He was set for the race and got a great start and was dominant throughout the 14-lap race, setting a new lap record in the process of 1.45.345. Taz looked so strong and was fired up for a good race win, by lap nine he had pulled a 7.3 second lead over his nearest rival. The extremely talented youngster led the race from start to finish and extended his lead in the Championship to 23 points.

Taz Taylor – “I’m over the moon with how the weekend has gone here at Oulton Park, I really do like the circuit and the RS Racing KTM has been working so well here. I really wanted to try and get away from the start so I did not get stuck in any chaos on the opening laps. I got my head down, managed to set a new lap record and just wanted to stay consistent. I kept an eye on my lap board and just carried on putting in consistent lap times.

Elliott continues to lead the way for Morello Racing

Norwich-based Morello Racing continued their strong start to their Pirelli National Superstock 1000cc Championship season at Oulton Park on Monday with Northern Ireland’s Josh Elliott finishing a close second to extend his lead in the table to eight points.

Despite encountering technical problems during qualifying, 20-year old Elliott qualified on the second row of the grid and an excellent start meant he was already up inside the top three at the end of the first lap. The race soon became a three-way battle between Josh, Alastair Seeley and Hudson Kennaugh with the first two the main protagonists at the head of the field. Both took turns leading but a red flag on the 12th lap brought the race to a premature end and Josh had to settle for second place although it extended his Championship lead to eight points.

There was more good news for the team with John Ingram scoring his first points of the season in 11th after a barnstorming ride from 32nd on the grid, which included the seventh fastest lap of the race, but new recruit James Rose, who’d qualified in 15th, was out of luck as a coming together with another rider on the opening lap saw him crash out.

MCE British Superbike Championship riders Victor Cox and new team member David McFadden had an up and down weekend with a number of mechanical issues affecting them during practice and qualifying. Trowbridge’s Cox went on to take 21st and 23rd in the two races but South African McFadden, having his first ever outing in the BSB series, was forced to retire from the opening 18-lap encounter. However, he bounced back later in the day to take his first finish in 25th place.

Josh Elliott: “We had a few problems during qualifying but we traced it to the fuel pump in the morning warm-up and the bike was faultless during the race so I was able to push hard from the start. I made a good start and managed to get into the lead but it was a bit like Brands in that I couldn’t open up a gap to Alastair as his bike is really quick. I decided to sit behind him and the plan was to make a move on the final lap but the red flag meant I never got the chance. It’s another good podium though and that’s my aim, to keep chalking up the rostrums, so roll on the next round.”

Victor Cox: “I’ve been pleased with my riding this weekend and with my lap times, as I have been all year, but it’s such a competitive year in BSB, getting into that top 20 is proving a tough nut to crack. My lap times this year would have put me in the top 15 in 2014 so it’s frustrating from that aspect but riding a Superbike is massively different to a Superstock bike. There’s so many things that are different but we’ve got a few weeks off now until the next round and another test session planned so I’ll keep chipping away.”

Steve Buckenham, Team Owner: “Despite having a problematical weekend with the bike, Josh was again exemplary in the race. He made a superb start and was battling with Alastair Seeley throughout the race with the plan all along being to sit behind him and make his move in the final two laps. Unfortunately, the red flag meant he couldn’t do that but it was a brilliant ride and a mature ride which saw him extend his title lead so we couldn’t be happier with him.”

“John also had a brilliant ride and to go from 32nd to 11th in what’s recognised as one of the toughest classes was fantastic and just what he deserved. Meanwhile, James, like Josh, had a number of problems in qualifying and we changed everything for the race so to see him get taken out by another rider at just the first corner was a tough one to take.”

“On the Superbike side of the garage, it was a big learning curve for David and the results don’t show the amount of effort he put in nor the results he’s capable of so there’s definitely more to come from him. For Victor, it was a frustrating weekend as he couldn’t get near the pace he’d shown at the test session a couple of weeks ago. We’ll go away now and use the six-week break to regroup and come back stronger in BSB and, hopefully, more ourselves up the results sheets.’

The next round of the BSB Championship takes place at Snetterton on June 19-21 but, prior to that, the Superstock series visits Donington Park once more with the fourth round being held on May 22-24.

Joe Collier racing on the Haribo Starmix Triumph had an amazing weekend at round three of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship at Oulton Park. The 20-year-old from Coalville took two stunning wins in the Evo class on Sunday and Monday both times gaining fifth place overall in the main Supersport class.

Joe is a big fan of the Oulton Park track commenting it is one of his favourite circuits to race at; he was riding well all weekend and was consistently quick in the Evo Championship. The youngster was wary during the wet conditions during practice and Saturday and did not want to push and do anything stupid.

Joe had a great qualifying session and ended up placed in seventh place on the grid and top Evo, he got a good start and was leading Evo after the opening lap. He was close to the pack on the main Supersport riders in battle for an overall podium. He rode a very consistent and strong race, avoiding a big crash he was able to secure a brilliant Evo win.

In the second race Joe started from eighth place on the grid, he held his position after the opening lap and by lap eight he had worked his way through some of the main Supersport riders including Ben Wilson to move up to fifth. The safety car was deployed on lap nine which bunched the riders together, Joe was then on the back of the front four and was in a fight for an overall podium for the final four laps. He fought hard to take another Evo race win and another great fifth place in the overall Supersport race.

Joe Collier – “I’m so pleased about the results this weekend I really felt good all weekend and the team worked really hard to make sure my Triumph was perfect. We made no major changes from the test last week and it was great to come here and not have to lose a session trying to find the right set up.

I felt really comfortable all weekend and to gain two wins is great plus such a strong finish in the main class is a real confidence boost. They are much quicker out of the turns compared to me and I had to remember I am racing in a separate Championship and I could see it turning a little bit messy! I would like to say a huge thank you to all my sponsors for their help and support and pleased to have gained two wins here. It’s a long wait now until Snetterton but I least I will go there on a high.”

Josh Daley was racing at his local race circuit this weekend in round three of the Motorpoint British Supersport Evo Championship at Oulton Park. The 18-year-old had a great first race finishing eighth in the Evo class and was 13th in race two.

Josh was again making big steps forward from last year with his pace during each session and he has now become more consistent with his lap times not only in the race but also during the practice sessions.

He rode a great first race on Sunday in the sprint race and really worked hard and was locked in a four bike battle. Josh was able to remain with the riders in front and make some strong passes on riders throughout the race to move him through to eighth.

In race two hr found it tough to relax and he struggled to find a good race pace, he worked hard but his lap times dropped off slightly in the closing stages of race two. He finished in 13th place and is now lying in 12th in the Championship standings scoring points in every race so far this season.

Josh Daley – “I was really pleased with the way I rode on Saturday and to gain eighth place, this has been my best result so far this season and it is a real credit to my Dad who works so hard to make the right changes on the bike to get it set up properly.

I found race two a little harder and just couldn’t get myself into a good rhythm. I was riding a solid race but I would have liked to have finished a little higher up. I got run onto the gravel on the last lap into the last corner which also caused me to drop a couple of places.

I would like to try and get out on the bike in the six week break now just to get some confidence and more laps on the bike before the next round at Snetterton mid-June. I am just really pleased that we have made some big jumps forward from this time last year and I’m really enjoying my racing. Thanks to everyone who always supports me it is much appreciated.”

Josh Day and the Ruby Racing Triumph team had a great weekend at round three of the British Motorpoint Supersport Evo Championship at Oulton Park he gained a fourth in race one and brilliant second in race two.

After a steady start to the season Josh was eager to perform this weekend at Oulton, the team made several changes to the bike throughout the practice sessions to find a good set up for the technical track. The heavens opened on Saturday afternoon and he was second overall in the wet conditions. The track dried up for qualifying session on Sunday and Josh started from 15th place on the grid for the 12 lap race. He was locked in a battle for a podium place but was unlucky just to miss out.

For race two he started from 15th place again, he got a good start and was third Evo rider as he crossed the line on lap one. He knew the leading Evo bike had a good gap and so he focused on hanging onto a podium position. He worked hard throughout the race and was through to second Evo on lap two. The safety car was deployed on lap nine for three laps and Josh lost a position on the first lap of the four lap dash dropping back to third. He pushed hard for the final four laps to secure his first podium of the season for the Ruby Racing Triumph team.

Josh Day – “The weekend was a huge step in the right direction for us as a team. I am still recovering from back injuries and it is the first time this season it has not been painful whilst riding. We had a new team member this weekend who used to work with Gino Rea at Moto2, he really helped with my progress over the weekend.

I am looking forward to the break we have now until Snetterton and get myself fully fit again. It was great to be back up on the podium this weekend and I hope this is now the start of our season. Rouse bounces back from the brink to secure seventh at Oulton Park

CHRISSY Rouse bounced back from a dramatic start to Round Three of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship to cross the line seventh at Oulton Park.

The 19-year-old Team HARIBO Starmix rider feared his weekend was over before it had properly begun when mechanical gremlins cut his first qualifying session short in the wet on Saturday afternoon, leaving him languishing down in 44th position.

With more rain forecast for Sunday, the 2013 Triumph Triple Challenge champ was doubtful he would get the chance to get a fast lap in, and with just 40 grid spots available at the Cheshire circuit, he was concerned that he may not make the start.

But his luck changed on Sunday when, despite a damp start, the weather cleared in time for second qualifying and he was able to put in a number of decent laps, eventually qualifying ninth for Bank Holiday Monday’s 14-lap race.

At the green light he made a reasonable start, and was running eighth by the end of the first lap. He quickly settled into a rhythm he was happy enough with, but it soon became clear he didn’t have the pace to run with the riders at the front.

After holding eighth for almost half of the race, the departure of Tarran Mackenzie who crashed on lap seven promoted him up to seventh place. From here he put his head down and pushed as hard as he could, and although he wasn’t able to catch the riders ahead, he was able to hold onto seventh all of the way to the chequered flag.

“That was a difficult race, I did my best but the lads up at the front just had a little bit more pace and I just couldn’t keep up with them today,” he said. “But to be honest, I have to take a seventh place today because there was a point this weekend when I feared I wouldn’t even get to race.

“It all started off quite badly, I was so disappointed on Saturday when I didn’t get a good lap in and after first qualifying I thought I was going to be going home. I’ve never been so down in all of my life.

“I got up on Sunday morning and it was still wet so I thought it was all over and had all but given up but then it started to dry and I did get to go out and was able to string some laps together. I can’t say I was happy with ninth but it was better than nothing.

“So yes, to overcome that bad start to the weekend and be able to salvage a seventh is the best I could’ve achieved. Of course it’s not what I wanted, it’s not what you come racing for, but at least it’s another haul of points and we can look ahead to the next round and hope to go better then.”

Rouse now lies seventh in the championship on 20 points. The next round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship will be over the weekend May 22-24 as part of the World Superbike Championship event at Donington Park.

ELLIOTT MAINTAINS SUPERSTOCK 1000 CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD AFTER OULTON PODIUM

Morello Racing’s Josh Elliott posted his third consecutive Pirelli National Superstock 1000cc podium during yesterday’s May Day meeting at Oulton Park in Cheshire. The Ballinamallard lad took second place behind fellow Ulsterman Alastair Seeley after the red flags were deployed on lap 11.

Despite feeling confident that he could have taken his second win of the year, Elliott is happy to have consolidated his championship lead at Oulton Park, making it three podiums and a victory from the opening three races of the season.

Josh Elliott:

“The red flag didn’t really work in my favour this weekend and it sort of ruined my race if I’ m honest. I lead for a short period but was happy sitting behind lining Alastair up as I’d already worked out where he was weaker than me on track. It was a good battle and the plan was to make a last lap pass but the red flag put paid to that plan. It’s good to get another solid podium and more points on the board, which has helped me retain my series lead.
