Privateer BMW Motorrad rider Lussiana crowned champion in the Brazilian Superbike Championship.

Munich, 16th December 2014. The year 2014 ends with another title win for a privateer BMW Motorrad rider. Matthieu Lussiana (FR) was crowned champion in the highest category of the Brazilian Superbike Championship (BRSBK), the Moto 1000 GP class. The eighth and final round was held this weekend at Cascavel (BR), with Lussiana celebrating his fourth win of the season on his BMW S 1000 RR to take the title. His Petronas Alex Barros Racing team is supported by the experts from BMW Motorrad Motorsport.

Lussiana regained the championship lead with a pole position and a victory at the penultimate round three weeks ago at Santa Cruz do Sul (BR). On the final weekend at Cascavel he was again the man to beat, gaining the maximum points haul. On Saturday he claimed pole-position with his RR, which secured him one bonus point. In Sunday’s race he led from start to finish, took the 25 points for the win and, in addition, he scored another bonus point for the fastest lap. After eight rounds he won the title with a total of 147 points, 15 more than his closest rival.

The Frenchman was the first European rider to be crowned champion in the Moto 1000 GP class of the BRSBK. “It is great to win the championship title,” he said. “The people here are very welcoming, I already feel like here is home. I just want to thank everybody.” Lussiana’s team-mate Lucas Barros (BR) finished the final race of the season in tenth.

In the GP Light class, Lucas Teodoro (BR / BMW Motorrad Alex Barros Racing) ended the season with another podium finish, claiming second. His team-mate Waguinho Duarte (BR) came home seventh, while Fernando Neiva (BR / Black Day Racing Team) was the third privateer BMW Motorrad rider in the top ten, crossing the line in tenth.
