Stefano Mesa was the biggest winner of the CCS Florida season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway with seven wins, including the Unlimited Grand Prix class, and brought home the number one plate for the 2015 season.

Mesa nailed the holeshot on his Westside Performance Suzuki GSX-R1000 and led the rest of that pack through Turn One at the start of the Unlimited Grand Prix race. Bruno Silva quickly took over the lead on his Kawasaki ZX-10R and was out front as they started lap two with Felipe MacLean and Sean Dwyer battling for third behind them. But

Mesa was determined to reclaim his advantage in the final race of the season and repassed Silva to take back the front spot. Behind him, Dwyer had maneuvered his Suzuki GSX-R1000 around MacLean’s Kawasaki

ZX-10R and settled into third. Mesa maintained his lead to the checkered flag and claimed his final victory of the season with a wheelie across the finish line. Silva finished second, with Dwyer, MacLean, and Armando Ferrer rounding off the top five.

“They were going at it,” Sean Dwyer said after the race. “It was fun to watch. I wanted to get up there with them, but it just wasn’t happening today. But, we know what to fix. I’m going to get it right in the off season and we’ll have something for them next year. Props to Bruno. He really took it to Mesa in that race. Mesa’s a good rider. He fought back, so that was fun to watch. I was hoping they’d mix up a little bit more so I could get a good run on them. But, not today.” He went on to thank Kids Cancer Foundation, Dunlop Tires, his wife Daniela, his crew Nick and Matt, Bell Helmets, and Thermosman.

“The race was amazing,” exclaimed Silva. I had a lot of battles with Stefano. A lot of passes. It was a fun race.” Silva thanked God and his family for all their support. “They really help me out, they’re always with me,” he stated, and went on to thank Pirelli Tire, “for their amazing tires,” and Eric Gray from GMD Computrack Fort Lauderdale, “for race setting my bike to the best that I can ride.”

On the podium, Mesa said, “I just put my head down the last race and I was actually trying to gap them, but I kept hearing a lot of bikes behind me. I was like, ‘It’s either Sean or Bruno, and I know they’re going to pass me. I know they’re going to pass me.’ So I was trying to keep my corner speed up and trying to get my lines right. And, I’ve got to practice a little bit on my brakes. Because Bruno’s definitely way harder on the brakes going into (turn) eight. He passed me a couple of times. I was like, ‘Oop, he’s going to miss it, he’s going to miss it. He’s going to crash. And he was like, oop there he goes. And, I was like, ‘Damn. Really?’ But it was really a good race. Fun battles. Everybody was riding top notch.

“The bikes have been great right off the bat,” Mesa exclaimed. “Thermosman has been setting them up so good lately. The Dunlop tires have just been sticking so good. It’s pretty much a good package right now we have.”

He thanked his team, Westside Performance, his family, CCS racing, Dunlop Tires, and Shoei Helmets. “Thanks for all the help we get from everybody,” Mesa said. “Just thanks a lot. We really appreciate it.”

Mesa also won the GTO and Unlimited Superbike classes, and battled with Shane Narbonne to take victories in GTU, Middleweight Supersport, Heavyweight Supersport, and Middleweight Grand Prix races. He finished second to Narbonne in Middleweight Superbike, and fourth in Unlimited Supersport.

The CCS Florida season opener for 2015 is scheduled to take place February 14-15, at Homestead-Miami Speedway, with 2014 championships awards ceremony in the riders’ meeting room on Saturday afternoon, following practice.
