MILWAUKEE YAMAHA’S BRIDEWELL SCORES EMOTIONAL DEBUT VICTORY
Milwaukee Yamaha returned to the top step of the podium at the eighth round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park today (Monday) as Tommy Bridewell claimed a debut race victory at the challenging Lincolnshire circuit.
In the opening race Bridewell was in the leading pack and soon was challenging Shane Byrne for the lead. As the pair crossed the line on the ninth lap he was 0.005s ahead on the track and the race was then red flagged for rain, rewarding the Devizes rider with his first race win in the class. Brookes meanwhile put in a determined performance to fight through from his tenth place grid position to finish fourth.
In race two Brookes had elevated himself to the front row with his fastest lap from the opener, however the Australian was unable to capitalise when he slid off on the warm up lap and was then unable to complete the race with the no restart rule. However Bridewell continued his run of form to claim a third place finish which confirmed his position in the Showdown, with Milwaukee Yamaha the only team to have both riders in the final title fight at this stage of the championship.
Bridewell said: “It is fantastic for me to get this first win. I have been trying so hard to push throughout my career with so much effort going into it and you have good and bad days and this is one of the good ones. I am feeling emotional about this victory and I want to dedicate it to my brother Ollie.
“If someone would have told me before this weekend that I would have had a win and a third place I would have bitten their arm off for it. That second race was a hard one because it was really wet and you were finding the grip but the crowd has been amazing. I got my first win and now we have got our place in the Showdown confirmed we can chill out a little bit ready for Donington. It had been a bit stressful to get that boxed off but tonight I am going to put my feet up and relax with a cup of tea!”
Brookes said: “I am not dwelling on today too much. It is a bit like yesterday in qualifying, we had some bad luck, but you know what’s done is done and there is no use thinking too much about it as you can’t go back in time and fix it. What annoyed me the most about today was race one because I rode as hard as anyone else to get as high up as I could and I don’t get anything to show for it as I am already in the Showdown.
“Race two was completely wet and the conditions were known, but the setup we had just wasn’t competitive enough and I crashed on the warm up lap, so that shows that something was wrong. To explain myself, I know there is the rule that you can’t restart after a crash, but because it was a warm up lap I thought I would pull up on the grid and see if the rule applied at that point. I thought it was no good rolling into the pits and then have a moment when the team yell at me saying what you are doing when you could have lined up on the grid or something. I knew if I wasn’t meant to be there I would be told and then I was black flagged. I hadn’t felt confident so that’s the weekend over, I have forgotten about it and now we get back on to the next one.”
Team owner Shaun Muir concluded: ” Today Tommy really showed what we knew he was capable of and to take his first win at one of the toughest circuits on the calendar was a credit to both his and the crew’s hard work this season. To follow up with a podium and consolidate his position in the Showdown is fantastic, especially as it looks like we will be the only team to have both riders in the title fight.
“Josh has had a difficult weekend and although he did a good job to come through from tenth to fourth he obviously wants podium finishes for his championship so was disappointed. Race two saw a small mistake cost him the chance of fighting for the podium, but we have some strong circuits coming up for us now, starting with a test this week at Assen so we are ready for the final title fight.”

Josh Waters didn’t let inclement weather or a trip to the medical centre hamper his bank holiday weekend at Cadwell Park, with the Tyco Suzuki rider taking a brace of fifth placed finishes – moving him into ninth place in the championship standings, one place ahead of his team-mate John Hopkins.
Hopkins, suffering from a badly fractured left foot after his crash at Oulton Park a fortnight ago, sat out race two at Cadwell after bravely taking three points from race one.
Josh Waters:
“I was happy again to improve throughout the weekend at Cadwell. To qualify on the second row and then to finish in the top five in both races was really good for me. Cadwell Park is a very unique circuit, so again I was happy to be competitive. Big thanks to my crew and team Tyco Suzuki. Now I’ll rest up and recover after my get off and look ahead to Donington Park.”
John Hopkins:
“I hate to let anyone down, but I had to make the decision to sit out the second race due to the foot being too sore. I was not able to put enough pressure on the footpeg to generate rear grip, making it far too dangerous. I have very high expectations going into Donington Park and the remaining rounds this season – so I want to be as close to 100% to meet those expectations. I want to thank the team for giving me the best bike possible this weekend and I’m just sorry I wasn’t able to finish it off. But to my team and the fans I have every intention of making up for it at Donington and beyond.”
Taylor Mackenzie came through from the sixth row of the grid to take seventh place in the feature Supersport race on his Tyco Suzuki GSX-R600. The Scottish rider holds ninth place in the championship standings.
Taylor Mackenzie:
“Well after the weekend we’ve had I was really happy to come away with a seventh place today. Starting 17th on the grid was never going to be easy, so to come away with some decent points is probably the best of a bad weekend. I really cannot wait to get to the next three tracks as they should suit both me and my GSX-R600. I hope we can finally have some good luck and be on the podium, which is where I want to be.”

“Cadwell in those conditions is a treacherous place to compete, so big credit to Josh for his two top-six finishes, especially race two where he picked himself up after a nasty crash to battle at the sharp end once again on the Tyco Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike.
“John did his best to come back after the Oulton injury and qualified well, but the physical nature of the Cadwell Park circuit was just a little too soon for him. Of course we are disappointed, but so is John, and we are all looking forward to Donington Park in a fortnight’s time where we hope all three riders can put in strong performances.”

Cadwell Park – Another Double Podium
The Be Wiser Kawasaki headed to the teams local circuit this Bank Holiday weekend at Cadwell Park for the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 and 600 Championship. The team once again secured a double podium in the Superstock 600 class with Joe Collier gaining second and Nick Anderson in third. Josh Day secured 14th place in the 1000 class.
In the Pirelli National Superstock class, once again both riders came to the circuit on a high from their podiums at Oulton Park and from the first session Joe Collier and Nick Anderson were putting in some good and consistent lap times. Qualifying went well and Joe ended up second on the grid and Nick in sixth.
In the wet race on Monday Joe got a steady start and lost some places dropping to fourth on lap five with Nick in fifth. Joe worked his way up to third place when leader Mason Law crashed out at the mountain section of the course elevating Joe to second and Nick to fourth.
The pair worked hard for the rest of the race and in the final turn Nick made a fantastic move on Joe Francis into the final hairpin to gain a brilliant third place and the second double podium on the trot for the Be Wiser Kawasaki team.
Joe Collier – “I’m so pleased with another podium for the Be Wiser Kawasaki team, it was a tough race because of the conditions and it was difficult to know how greasy the track was. I took it fairly steady on the opening laps and tried to use my head a little bit to get a feel and understanding for the circuit. I was then able to settle down and make a couple of passes, I really thought Mason deserved to win being out there on dry tyres, I thought the race would be red flagged then but we carried on, I didn’t have a clue that Nick had finished third until we got to the podium so it was another mega result for the team.”
Nick Anderson – “I’m so pleased with another podium, three on the trot now, it has taken a while to click but I feel like we’ve made some massive progress this year with the Be Wiser Kawasaki team. We now have a good base set up from last year and now the results are starting to come and it’s a great feeling. Everyone worked really hard all weekend again and I’d like to thank all the Be Wiser Kawasaki team and their sponsors for this opportunity and I hope we can keep this form for the rest of the season.”
In the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship Josh Day had a difficult weekend after a big crash in the opening practice session which caused a lot of bike damage. He was only able to qualify in 24th place for the 15 lap race. He got a great start and was 18th after lap one, he got his head down and managed to get through to a points scoring position and finished in 14th place after the race was red flagged on lap 10.
Josh Day – “It has been a tough weekend; there was a lot of damage to the Be Wiser Kawasaki after my crash on Saturday. The team worked really hard to get things sorted and fixed and come the race today it was feeling back to normal. I was a little sore but managed to get a good start and get my head down and push forwards. I got some points and hope to continue to improve at the remaining rounds of the series.”
Team Owner/Manager Alan Greig – “Well this weekend was almost a copy and paste from Oulton Park; I’m delighted with the results in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 class with second and third from Joe and Nick. They both qualified well and both raced a very mature race in difficult conditions, when we saw the weather the game plan was to just bring both bikes home so to gain another two podiums was just brilliant. We hope now we’re in with a fighting chance of a win at one of the remaining rounds, this is the fourth season running now we’ve had a rider on the podium at our home round which is brilliant.
In the Stock 1000 class once again difficulties in practice and qualifying with a crash and technical issues put Josh in 24th on the grid which left him a lot of work to do. He once again proved he has the race pace for a good position but we need to really sort out his qualifying situation. We go to Silverstone next weekend for the stock 1000 race which will take place alongside the MotoGP and hopefully we can concentrate on improving his qualifying times.””

Increased Advantage For Smiths Triumph At Cadwell Park
The Gloucester-based Smiths Triumph team increased their advantage in the 2014 Motorpoint British Supersport Championship at Cadwell Park this bank holiday weekend with both Billy McConnell and team-mate Graeme Gowland taking two podiums each in the two races, including a stunning 1-2 in the opening encounter.
Billy and Graeme lined up in second and third and on the front row for Sunday’s 12-lap ‘Sprint’ race and it turned out to be a four-way fight for the win between the duo and fellow Triumph riders Luke Stapleford and Luke Mossey. Positions changed hands all the way through but in the final three laps it came down to a straight fight between Aussie McConnell and Northumberland rider Gowland. They continued to swap places and crossed the line almost together as the transponders showed Gowland had won. However, the decision ultimately went to a photo finish and Adelaide’s McConnell was given the win by just 0.001 seconds, the closest finish in British Supersport history.
Both riders were on the front row for today’s ‘Feature’ race although poor weather conditions meant it was cut to 14 laps. Main title rival Alastair Seeley was one of many riders to fall foul of the conditions but both McConnell, who had to have his clutch repaired just minutes before the race got underway, and Hexham rider Gowland put in two faultless rides to bring the factory-supported Triumph Daytona 675 home in second and third places respectively.
The weekend’s results have seen McConnell move to the top of the Championship table with a lead of eight points over Gowland whilst Seeley is now a further 38 points adrift.
Billy McConnell: “Graeme and I have a great relationship both on and off the track and every move in Sunday’s race was clean and sharp. I kept making silly little mistakes here and there but then managed to get past Luke and it all came down to the run to the line. I had no idea if I’d won or not and had to ask the marshals on the slow down lap to find out and was over the moon when I found out I’d got it. Today’s race was a whole different challenge and after struggling in the wet at Oulton Park, we worked hard with the set-up for the race although the clutch problem on the warm up lap gave us a bit of a scare. We had enough time to get it fixed and it’s funny how things work out as the conditions worked in our favour today.”
Graeme Gowland: “It was an awesome race on Sunday, clean racing and obviously really good for the team. We went over the line together at the same time and I thought I’d got the win but Billy got the verdict and I had to try all over again on Monday. The rain changed everything for everyone though and the conditions were really tricky. We haven’t had a race like that in a long time and I was delighted with the podium and to be able to limit the losses to Billy.”
Rebecca Smith: “We’re thrilled to come away from Cadwell Park having scored some well deserved points and competed in some fantastic racing. The boys have a really good relationship and we’re happy for them to race wheel to wheel like they did on Sunday as we know they’re not going to do anything silly and that race was just fantastic to watch. Monday’s race was all about getting as many points as possible and both Billy and Graeme rode sensibly and put in two excellent performances. The Championship is now looking much healthier for us with Alastair having a poor meeting and we look forward to Donington Park now.”

Round eight of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship was at Cadwell Park, Luke Mossey from Cambridge on the Teccare Profile Triumph had a tough weekend. In the first race on Sunday he was battling with the leaders for a win but with only two laps remaining and lying in third place, he was caught by his team-mate and crashed out. In the horrendous wet weather conditions on Monday he was unfortunate to crash out of the race from seventh place.
The weekend was going well for the 21-year-old at Cadwell Park and his times in all the sessions put him up near the front. He qualified in fourth place for race one, he got a good start and was through to third after the opening lap. He made a pass on his team-mate Luke Stapleford for second and then a stunning pass on race leader Billy McConnell on lap three to take the lead. He proceeded to lead the race until lap six, and then dropped to third when Graeme Gowland made a move. He was sat in a comfortable third place when on lap nine his team-mate made a mistake and caught the back wheel of Luke, forcing him to crash out of the race.
He started again from fourth place for the second main feature race on Bank Holiday Monday and in the shocking weather conditions Luke was wary but keen to gain a finish in the wet. He got a steady start but dropped back to eighth at the end of the first lap, he moved through to seventh but crashed out on lap six putting a quick end to his weekend.
Luke Mossey – “I’m so disappointed with this weekend and leaving with no Championship points, I was really pleased with my performance in race one and was looking at a solid podium finish. I know Luke wouldn’t have taken me out on purpose and I was stunned when I knew it was him but it is just one of those things. He apologised as soon as he saw me and said sadly he made a mistake but I paid the price.
I am always a little cautious in the wet conditions as previously I have sustained the injuries I have in these conditions. I was a little wary at the start of the race but was sitting in a fairly comfortable seventh place and I just hit a patch of water and crashed out. I want to forget about this weekend and move onto Donington Park.”

It was a mixed weekend for the Josh Daley Racing team at round eight of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship at Cadwell Park. Racing in the Evo Championship he secured a fifth in race one and was unfortunate to crash out in the wet conditions in race two.
Josh had a few technical problems with his Kawasaki during the practice sessions on Saturday but it once again in each session he improved his time every time out on the circuit. After some advice from former British Superbike Champion Tommy Hill, Josh listened and had a strong qualifying session. He finished qualifying as sixth Evo rider and 20th place on the grid. He got a good start and stayed in a consistent fifth place in the Evo class throughout the race.
The weather changed for the worse on Bank Holiday Monday and Josh was eager for a strong result in conditions he enjoys. Sadly his race was cut short on the opening lap when the conditions got the better of him and he crashed out uninjured.
Josh Daley – “I was really looking forward to Cadwell as it’s a circuit I enjoy riding, I am still learning several parts of the track but each session I felt more comfortable with everything. The first race went well and it was a huge boost for me having Tommy (Hill) coming to give me some advice, I really appreciated it. When I saw the rain set in on Monday I was pleased as the wet has always favoured me in the past. Maybe I got a little carried away on the first lap and didn’t settle into a rhythm and crashed out. Every weekend is a new learning experience for me and each weekend I take away as much information as I can. Thank you again to all my personal sponsors for all their help and support. I hope we can improve at Donington Park in a few weeks’ time.”

Tsingtao Kawasaki Racing’s Danny Buchan edged ever closer to this year’s Pirelli National Superstock 1000cc Championship title, after romping to his sixth victory of the year at Cadwell Park. The 21-year-old now leads the 2014 series by 48 points over main challenger Jason O’Halloran who finished second in today’s race with Lee Jackson third.
Buchan took command from his pole position spot on the grid, leading across the line on all ten laps, eventually taking the win by almost five seconds; adding the fastest lap of the race to compliment yet another top class victory.
Buchan said afterwards: “Another great weekend for both myself and the Tsingtao Kawasaki Racing team. We couldn’t ask for more than pole position, a race win and the fastest lap of the race, and we’ve extended our championship lead.
“We still have four rounds remaining, which includes a race as part of the MotoGP programme this coming weekend at Silverstone, so I’m looking forward to that. All is good, I’m happy with our season to date – we just have to get it all across the line now and win that title.”

The Gearlink Kawasaki team had a solid weekend in the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship at the packed Cadwell Park. Glenn Irwin had a fantastic weekend with fourth in race one and then he took a fantastic win on Monday. Luke Hedger was seventh in race one but was unfortunate to crash out of race two.
Glenn Irwin was having a solid weekend and qualified the Gearlink Kawasaki in ninth position despite a minor technical problem which saw him complete only six laps. He got a steady start in the race and moved through to eighth by the end of lap one. He dug deep and battled hard with his team-mate Luke Hedger, plus Alastair Seeley and Luke Jones eventually getting the better of them all to finish in fourth. His time placed him ninth on the grid again for the main feature race on Monday. In the wet conditions Glenn was eager for a good race, he got an amazing start and was up to fourth by the end of the opening lap. By lap three he was in the lead and was opening the gap on every lap, he had a 4.5 second lead on the penultimate lap taking a great win.
Luke Hedger showed some fine form this weekend at Cadwell Park and was running some good strong consistent race times throughout the weekend. He had his best qualifying position of the year in race one starting from sixth place for the 12 lap sprint race. He kept his grid position at the end of the opening lap and after a fierce move by his team-mate he fought hard to gain seventh place. His time put him in eighth place for the main feature race, he struggled off the start and dropped to tenth place but was making progress when he unfortunately crashed out on lap three, uninjured.
Glenn Irwin – “I’m really pleased with how the weekend has gone here at Cadwell Park and to leave with a fourth and a win is brilliant. The Gearlink Kawasaki team once again gave me a great bike and we had good pace right from the start. The first race was tough as I had to work hard to get through the pack but I eventually managed to take fourth. I knew when I saw the conditions on Monday that it would be good and I had a good feeling as I know the bike handles really well in these conditions. I got a great start and pushed hard to get away and I knew my pace was good, I got to the front and settled into a really good pace. I felt so comfortable out there and wanted to keep pushing hard, the conditions were really bad in certain parts of the circuit so I had to ensure I kept my concentration. I would like to thank everyone that has got behind me especially in the last week and hope we can take this form to Donington.”
Luke Hedger – “I was pleased with my pace this weekend at Cadwell during the practice and qualifying sessions. I got a good start in race one and I felt really strong on the bike, I know this year is still a learning year for me but I am eager to finish the season with some good results. This weekend has given me a lot of confidence and despite the crash in race two I am feeling really happy on the Gearlink Kawasaki. I would once again like to thank First Choice Flooring plus all the team for their help and support. I can’t wait to get to Donington Park and keep improving.”
Gearlink Kawasaki have made some big changes to the Superbike of Ben Wilson and his weekend went much better than previous rounds. He finished 13th in qualifying one which put him through to Q2, sadly he suffered a small issue with his tyres and he ended up qualifying in 18th place for the opening MCE British Superbike race.
Despite spots of rain the first race was declared dry and cut short to 15-laps, Ben got a solid start and was 16th after lap one. He pushed hard and his times were improving each lap and he managed to move through to 12th place before the race was red flagged due to rain.
Ben was placed in 15th place on the grid for the second race and as the heavens opened Ben could not wait to get out there and see what results he could achieve at his home circuit. His start was unreal and he was 10th after the opening lap, in the horrendous weather conditions Ben fought hard and was up to seventh by lap six. He lost drive on a huge puddle and was passed by Kirkham, Richards and Walker but he still managed a great ninth place at the end of the 15-lap race.
Ben Wilson – “It’s so good to be back out there and also back fighting in a points scoring position. It has been really frustrating up until now but the Gearlink Kawasaki team has worked so hard since Oulton to ensure they provided me with a good bike and I’m glad now we are able to put up a fight. I really enjoyed this weekend and being back out there and being competitive, I know the team will continue to make improvements and hope my season starts here.”
Team Manager Michael de Bidaph – “We have made some big changes with the Superbike before coming here to Cadwell and they appear to now be working which is a huge relief. Qualifying went well for Ben and we are pleased to be back out on the grid with a bike that can now finish in the top 15. I am very happy with the base setting we have now and I know with more work and improvements the results for Ben should start coming back. It has been a tough few months and a tough learning curve for us, the results Ben got today should hopefully give him some confidence for the remaining rounds of the season.
I’m delighted with the results in the Supersport class both riders have ridden really well all weekend and Glenn was rewarded today with the win in horrendous conditions. Luke and Glenn both worked hard this weekend and they are developing as riders and their times and results are showing it. Luke was unfortunate to crash out today, he was on a fast lap when he did but luckily he did not hurt himself. Glenn rode fantastically and really deserved the win we are really pleased for him and I thank all the Gearlink Kawasaki team for their hard work.”

It was another frustrating weekend for Jake Dixon and the Appleyard Doodson Macadam Yamaha team at Cadwell Park this weekend. He was unable to start the opening race after qualifying in fifth position after an engine problem on the out lap forced him out. In the main feature race on Bank Holiday Monday, Jake was looking set for his first podium in the wet conditions but unfortunately crashed out.
The 18-year-old from Dover had been experiencing a technical gremlin on the Yamaha since Thruxton and the team have been working all hours to find the problem. After a successful test last week at Cadwell, the mysterious problem reared its head again in free practice two, allowing Jake to only complete three laps. The team worked hard over night to fix the issue and he was able to qualify in fifth, he was eager for a good result but as he went out on the out lap he was forced into pit lane when the bike suffered and engine problem.
Unable to complete one lap for a time for race two he was dropped the maximum six grid positions to 11th for race two on Monday. The heavens opened for the race and the youngster was keen to secure a strong result for the Appleyard team. He got a fantastic start and was fifth after lap one. He was soon putting in some fast lap times and despite a mistake on lap four where he ran wide he re-grouped and worked his way through to third place. He was creeping up on second placed man Billy McConnell when he hit a patch of water at the Gooseneck which fired him straight over the bars.
Jake Dixon – “I’m so gutted about this weekend it’s just so disappointing and frustrating, the team worked really hard to fix the problem on Saturday night for qualifying and everything felt good and I was able to qualify fifth and was looking forward to the race. I went out on the out lap and something just didn’t feel right so I pulled into the pits.
Once again the team worked hard over night and sorted the engine out, ran it on the dyno and it felt really good in morning warm up. The rain came in, which always evens the field out slightly and I was keen to get going. I made a mistake early on which forced me wide but I managed to get my head down and catch the pack in front of me again. I made some passes and everything was going well but I got caught out by a flow of water going across the track and it just spat me high into the air. I was running well and gutted to have crashed out but hopefully we can have a trouble free weekend at Donington and get back on form again there. Thank you to the team for trying to sort the problems and also to all my personal sponsors, I hope soon I can repay them with a podium.”

SEELEY DOWN BUT NOT OUT AFTER DISAPPOINTING WEEKEND AT CADWELL PARK
There’s no hiding from the disappointment of the bank holiday meeting at Cadwell Park, which didn’t produce the results both Mar-Train Racing and Alastair Seeley were looking for. The Ulsterman will now have to dig deep in the final four meetings of the year to close the 38-point gap to the top of the table.
Still suffering from the after effects of his crash at Oulton Park two weeks ago, Seeley struggled with the physical nature of the Lincolnshire circuit, but put in a brave performance on Sunday during the sprint race taking sixth place.
Unfortunately in yesterday’s longer race in wet and miserable conditions, Alastair’s visor uncharacteristically steamed up and he couldn’t see. Despite his best efforts, the Mar-Train rider was forced to retire after running off the track making it too dangerous to continue.
Alastair Seeley:
“It’s hard to put into words how angry I am after that performance on Monday. There’s not much you can do when you can’t see. It was a tough weekend all round and although Cadwell wouldn’t be one of my favourite circuits, we did hope to take something positive away from here.
“I’ll not be giving up despite the gap to Billy [McConnell] now being almost 40 points. The last four circuits at Donington, Assen, Silverstone and Brands all suit the Mar-Train Yamaha R6 and are ones I enjoy racing on.”

Nutt takes second win of the season
Castlerock’s Marty Nutt scored his second win of the 2014 Ducati TriOptions Cup season at Cadwell Park on Bank Holiday Monday and with third in the race the previous day, it proved to be his best meeting of the year thus far and keep alive his hopes of retaining the Championship he won last year.
Having qualified in a good third place and on the front row on the Ducati Coventry/JHP Racing/Nutttravel.com Ducati, Marty had high hopes going into Sunday’s 10-lap race and, sure enough, it turned out to be a three-way battle for the win between himself and regular sparring partners Dennis Hobbs and Leon Morris. The trio were never more than a second apart although overtaking opportunities were limited around the narrow, woodland circuit limited and, try as he might, Marty was unable to make a pass stick and he crossed the line in third place, just half a second adrift of race winner Morris.
The sun of Sunday had been replaced by rain on Monday but with another good start, Marty immediately slotted into third place behind Morris and Hobbs. Positions remained the same until the seventh lap when Marty was able to overtake both riders but although Morris slipped off the pace slightly, Hobbs was still very much in close attention. However, Marty successfully resisted the challenges and he duly crossed the line for his second win of the season, 0.128s clear of Hobbs.
With two rounds and 100 points still available, Marty remains in third place overall on 194 points with Morris leading on 255 and Hobbs in second on 233.
Marty Nutt: “It’s been a pretty good weekend and, amazingly, I never touched the bike from the previous round at Oulton, we ran exactly the same set-up and it worked a treat. In the first race, the three of us were really close together throughout but it just wasn’t possible to make a safe overtaking manoeuvre and if I’d have tried anything it would have been a lunge and a bit too risky. It was quite frustrating having to sit there in third and although I thought I might be able to pick up the pieces if anything happened between Dennis and Leon, I had to settle for third.”
“I was quite pleased to have bridged the gap to them though as they had quite an advantage in qualifying and with the rain on Monday, I knew it would be closer still. My crew chief has found a really good wet setting with the bike so I had plenty of feel and confidence and just sat there in the first few laps allowing everything to get up to working temperature. I stayed with the front two and picked them both off on the same lap and just pulled the pin as best I could. Dennis stuck with me though and had a go back at me at the end but I just made it to the line first. Having a consistent bike really helped me this weekend and I’m delighted with the results and there’s still 100 points available so you just never know what might happen at the final two rounds.”
The penultimate round of the series takes place at Assen, Holland on September 19-21.

LAW JOINS THE ‘MOUNTAIN CLUB’ BUT TAKES POSITIVES FROM THE CADWELL MEETING
Mason Law joined the ‘Mountain Club’ at Lincolnshire’s famous Cadwell Park racing circuit yesterday, but before succumbing to the conditions – the Essex lad looked an odds-on certainty to take his debut win the Pirelli National Superstock 600cc class aboard his TrikMoto Kawasaki.
Having qualified on the front row Law showed maturity in the opening laps hanging onto the front group in sixth place, but once he found his comfort zone he set about taking chunks of time out of the leading trio.
On lap four he closed in on the leading duo and at the end of lap five he was ready to take charge at the head of proceedings from series favourite Andy Reid. At the end of lap six Mason was now leading and rapidly increased his advantage; he held station until the penultimate lap, where he was unfortunately caught out by the debilitating conditions at the Mountain Circuit, frustratingly just over a lap away from a famous victory.
Mason was disappointed at the finish, but takes the positives away from the Lincolnshire meeting and said: “Yes we undoubtedly have a lot of positives to take away from the weekend but we needed the rain to hold off just a little longer.
“I could have settled for a safe second but I was enjoying leading the race and really wanted to win. I know what’s possible now, so I’m really looking forward to Donington Park. Thanks to the whole team and Andrew Pitt for his words of wisdom this weekend.”
Andrew Pitt – Team Manager:
“I think Mason has shown this weekend that he is the real deal and has the package to not only qualify well, but run the front pace with the leading contenders. It was one of those situations where you either go for the win or back off and take a safe podium finish. He’s a young lad and wants to win races and he cannot be faulted for that. Uribe Heads To France After Cadwell Park Race Is Postponed
Because of heavy rain, the latest round of the BSB Motostar championship at Cadwell Park was called off on safety grounds with the race to be scheduled to run at one of the remaining races, possibly Donington Park. Yesterday’s cancellation meant that Jayson Uribe was unable to race at the iconic Lincolnshire circuit, famous for its mountain jump, and the youngster will therefore have to wait until the next event to add to his already impressive, record breaking run of point scoring finishes in BSB.
Putting the race aside, Jayson had an up and down weekend, suffering two crashes, both at Park Corner before recovering to secure a 3rd row of the grid starting position with a fighting 7th on the overall timing sheets.
Race day dawned with clear skies and Jayson strung together a solid morning warm up, finishing 2nd overall and was optimistic of being able to race towards the front when the race got underway.
The Motostar race was scheduled to run last on the day’s programme of events but with rain falling the organisers deemed the circuit conditions unsafe and postponed it. Nevertheless, Jayson once again showed his skills, not only at mastering the technical and daunting Cadwell Park but also at being able to overcome a couple of minor setbacks and still feature strongly.
Jayson Uribe: “The weekend went well for me. I had a couple of little offs but we learned a lot about bike set up and fuel injection. Jumping the mountain was amazing. The best part of each lap was launching myself off the famous jump and soaring through the air. Although the race was cancelled because of the weather I was in the top 5 of Moto 3 all weekend and had loads of fun. Thanks to everyone who helped get me here! Thanks to my mom and dad for being there for me at the track.”
Jayson has no time to relax before the next round of the championship as he will make his debut in the French Moto 3 series at the Carole circuit near Paris this coming weekend as part of an initiative fronted by former WSBK racer Sebastien Gimbert. An American rider in Superbike Moto 3 French Championship!
RACE EXPERIENCE JUNIOR (www.race-experience.fr), was created by Sebastien Gimbert, in association with Fabrice Lock, with the goals of improving performance, speed, race-craft and safety for young, talented and upcoming motorcycle racers. Gimbert’s professional, multidisciplinary environment, coaching and advice will help prepare these young riders for a career in top-tier, international motorcycle racing.
The next French championship race event will happen the 30th and 31st of August, near Paris, at the “Carole” Racing Facility – Tremblay en France(93). Race Experience Junior and its partner MOTUL, with support of the other Race Experience Junior partners, have decided to welcome a young talented Californian rider, Jayson Uribe (www.jaysonuribe.com) to compete in the Moto 3 class.
As a teammate, Jayson will have Race Experience Junior regular riders: Hugo Casadesus, who is currently leading the Moto 3 French Championship and Mickael Coupe, who is leading the Pre-Moto 3 French Championship.
Jayson is only 15 years old and has already produced many excellent results in The UK Moto 3 Championship this year, with podium finishes in four (4) races out of seven (7). To be able to undertake European competition at 15 demonstrates his major determination and commitment to a career in motorsports, and aligns perfectly with the Race Experience Junior Program.

Challenging Cadwell Park meeting for Quattro Plant Kawasaki
The Quattro Plant Kawasaki team were in action at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire over the Bank Holiday weekend for round eight of the MCE British Superbike Championship but it proved to be a challenging meeting for the Hampshire-based team with a seventh place finish for Dan Linfoot the best they had to show for their efforts.
The 26-year old performed well in practice and qualifying but conditions changed dramatically for race day on Bank Holiday Monday with the competitors greeted with cool temperatures and drizzle for the first race of the day. A solid start saw Dan maintain his ninth place and by lap six he’d moved up a spot to eighth as a group of nine riders circulated together at the head of the field. By lap ten, Dan was up to seventh and looking good for yet another top six finish but the race was stopped due to the drizzle turning to heavier rain and he had to settle for the seventh place finish.
Conditions had worsened considerably for the second race later in the day with heavy rain falling and it was cut from its intended 18 laps to 15. Dan had a great start to the race and completed the opening lap in fifth place but from there on in, it was very much a battle for survival with minimum grip and poor visibility just some of the hazards faced. Indeed, Dan slipped back as the race wore on and with a number of his main rivals failing to finish, he exercised caution and brought the bike home for 11th place and five valuable points, which kept him in fifth place overall in the Championship and further strengthened his hold on one of the ‘Showdown’ spots.
Race day was equally challenging for team-mate Howie Mainwaring although he had one of his best qualifying performances to date with an extremely strong 13th place overall in the dry conditions of Sunday after running an almost identical pace to Linfoot. Indeed, he only just missed out on reaching the final stage of qualifying and with good race pace, hopes were high for two dry races and two top ten finishes.
The rain changed that but the first race started well as he slotted into 11th although a mistake second time around when he tried to overtake Stuart Easton saw him drop back to 23rd and dead last. However, he fought back valiantly to claim 15th and the final Championship point and gain a good grid spot for race two. It gave him greater confidence for the second race and, sure enough, he was able to show some of his true colours and crossed the line a second behind Dan in a good 12th place.
Dan Linfoot: “Cadwell was intended to be a points-building exercise and I was aware all weekend of the points I needed to gain on my rivals to secure our place in the Showdown. I felt really good in race one and sat in the lead pack, picking off a few riders in front of me just after half race distance only for the red flag to come out immediately afterwards. I knew race two was going to be a race of attrition given the conditions so I set out just to score some solid points and try to put more ground between myself and seventh place, which I again managed to do. All in all, it’s not been our most successful weekend but it’s been a successful outcome in terms of points in which we can take to Donington and, hopefully, cement our Showdown place.”
Howie Mainwaring: “It’s not been a bad weekend at all for me and with some new members in the team, we’ve clicked well and made some good strides forward. I only just missed out on Q3 and felt I had the pace to run the top eight in the dry but I’m still gaining my confidence in the wet. The first race was my mistake and I ran on at Park Corner dropping all the way to the back although I was pleased to fight my way back into the points. It gave me more confidence for the second race although the visibility was terrible and I could only see about a metre in front of me at time. I decided to let everything settle down and the race came to me, moving forward all the time. I came through to 12th, just behind Dan, and was pleased with the result.”
Pete Extance, Team Owner: “Dan put in another solid performance in very tricky conditions and did what we expected of him to score some good points for the Showdown. We can now move on to Donington Park in a Showdown position and, all bar Stuart Easton winning both races there, be in the top six for the final three rounds.”
“Howie put on a great performance in the two races with two points scoring rides, following Dan home in the second race. I’d like to say well done to both riders and crews for their efforts and results this weekend and, as always, thanks to all of our sponsors.”
