JD Beach Finishes Second At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca; Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Teammate Garrett Gerloff Is Sixth
Cypress, CA – July 13, 2014 – Sunday’s AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca saw a total of seven Yamaha YZF-R6 riders finish in the top ten. MotoSport.com/Meen Yamaha rider Jake Lewis notched his first win of the season in a hard-fought race with Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider JD Beach.
JD’s teammate Garrett Gerloff was also in a close battle of his own with Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Dane Westby as the two R6 pilots swapped positions a couple of times during the 20-lap race. In the end, Dane took over fifth position on the track, and Garrett Gerloff–coming off a still-healing wrist injury at Barber Motorsports Park just a couple of weeks ago–finished a respectable sixth.
“My Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R6 was fantastic today.” JD said. “The crew has been working really hard, and I’m so glad we’re going to Mid-Ohio next week because I’m close to winning, and I just want to get back on my R6 and make that happen as soon as possible!”
As JD said, the next round of the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike season will take place this coming weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH.

TOP FIVE FOR WESTBY AND YAMALUBE AT LAGUNA SECA
Monterey, CA (July 13th, 2014) – Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Dane Westby earned fifth on Sunday in AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. For the upstart team, it was the fourth top-five result in succession.
Westby got off the line in fourth position and lost the lead pack after a few laps. Dane regained his mojo midway through the race. Westby passed fellow Yamalube-sponsored rider Garrett Gerloff in the Corkscrew with two laps to go and held the position to the flag.
“I was concentrating on the guys in front of me, and they were getting away,” said the Oklahoman. “I knew there was someone behind, but I wasn’t worried about that. At one point, Gerloff came by me. I knew there wasn’t anyone else with him so I went to school on Garrett for a few laps. I got him in the Corkscrew and thought he would make a move on the last lap. I didn’t protect the line because the only way is to go down to first gear, which hurts your run to the line. I was expecting him to attack, but I am glad he didn’t.”
“The Wolverine” solidified his fifth place in the standings with the result, expanding his lead over sixth-place Gerloff.
“Garrett was making some mistakes, and I was, too. I was about a second short of my qualifying times, so I wouldn’t say it was a great race for me. The team did a great job as usual and I felt how we did was on me. I may be a little disappointed but at the same time I’m happy to get out of here with a top five. I have crashed a few times here in the past and, maybe, I am not quite as comfortable here as I am at some other tracks.”
Dane and Yamalube/Westby Racing will compete next weekend at Mid-Ohio, July 19-20.
