Scott Russell, the 1993 FIM Superbike World Champion, was seriously injured July 8 when he crashed while riding motocross at Perris Raceway, in Perris, California.

Russell was riding as part of a new Arai off-road helmet introduction event when he crashed and suffered a broken shoulder blade, three broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a lacerated spleen.

Russell was transported to a hospital in Riverside, California.

Roadracingworld.com has been unsuccessful in reaching Russell via his cell phone except for one text message from Russell, in which he listed his injuries and wrote: “I might see y’all at Mid Ohio?”
