It’s A Brave, New World For Yamaha U.S. Road Racing Teams As They Visit Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca This Weekend

Cypress, CA – Yamaha’s “Fast Four” will make their annual visit to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend where they’ll shine brightly under the global spotlight of the FIM Superbike World Championship, GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round.

Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha: Hayes & Beaubier

Leading the 2014 AMA Pro Racing SuperBike Championship points standings is three-time AMA Pro SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes, who will be looking to add to his points lead by notching another win aboard his #4 Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R1.

The “Mississippi Madman” will be the first to tell you that it won’t be easy, however, as he will face stiff competition from right within his own team. Rider of the #2 R1 SuperBike, Cameron Beaubier, is having a remarkable rookie SuperBike season, and he’ll be going all out to get the win in front of a throng of family and friends from nearby Roseville who will be in attendance and enthusiastically cheering him on.

The battles between Josh and Cameron have been great drama all season long, and this weekend should prove to be no different. Sunday’s SuperBike race is scheduled for 4:20 PM PST.

Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha: Gerloff & Beach

Garrett Gerloff, rider of the #8 Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R6, is coming off a visit to Barber Motorsports Park that he’d just as soon forget. The 18-year-old Texan is back to full fitness after his Alabama experience, however, and he’s ready to take to Laguna Seca’s famed Corkscrew with renewed vigor and go for the Daytona SportBike win.

Also ready for action on the 2.238-mile, 11-turn Laguna Seca natural road course is JD Beach, the newest member of the Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team. JD is currently in 4th place in the 2014 Daytona SportBike Championship points standings and just 20 points out of the Championship lead.

Look for JD and Garrett up front and going for the win as they do battle not only against each other, but also against a highly competitive DSB field dominated by Yamaha R6 riders. Sunday’s DSB race will go green at 1:25 PM PST.

Visit The Yamaha Display Area At The Marketplace And Demo A 2015 FZ-07

The Yamaha Display Area At The Marketplace, which is located in the track infield between turns 5 and 6 at the Raceway, will be open Friday, July 11 through Sunday, July 13, from 8 AM to 5 PM.

You’ll be able to take a demo ride aboard the all-new 2015 Yamaha FZ-07 sportbike. Demo rides will take place at the Yamaha Display Area At The Marketplace on Friday and Saturday, July 11 and 12, from 9 AM to 4 PM, and on Sunday, July 13, from 9 AM to 1 PM. Kyle Wyman ready for Laguna Seca following successful knee surgery

LOS GATOS, Calif. — Kyle Wyman had successful surgery on his right knee yesterday to remove fragments left over from an old injury. The New Yorker flew out early to California to have the procedure at the hands of Dr. Maury Harwood, just days before this coming weekend’s pro road races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif.

In 2009, Wyman suffered spiral fractures of the tibia, fibula and tibia plateau during an AMA Pro qualifying session at Daytona International Speedway. Over the course of nearly five years, he has now had 10 operations on that leg to fix the broken bones. The most recent procedure was initially just to remove fragments, until they discovered a torn meniscus once they were inside.

“It seems like routine to have gone back in for surgery on this leg, but I think we are in a really good place now,” Wyman said. “This was the most minor operation that I’ve had, and it was more of a fine-tune type of procedure. I’m glad I had it done because they discovered another issue with it once they got in. I’m looking forward to the increased range of motion that will come from the operation.”

Despite yesterday’s surgery, Wyman will face back-to-back events of AMA Pro Road Racing. Firstly, this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and next weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. He says the knee will play a factor.

“It’s going to be sore, that’s for sure,” added Wyman, who will again compete in two classes at each event on his Millennium Technologies/KWR machines. “It’s very swollen and tight today, but I’m going to do everything in my power to control the swelling over the next two days and try to minimize the effect over the weekend. It is what it is, so either way I’ll show up as ready as I can be and give it my best effort.”

Wyman will also be racing without his familiar #33 competition number this weekend at Laguna Seca, as AMA Pro Racing has given special allowance to allow him to run #11 as tribute to Harvey C. Rousseau, Grandfather of the Wyman brothers, who recently passed away on June 25.

“Grandpa Harv ran #11 throughout his whole car racing career,” Wyman explained. “He was a strong, resilient man who I respected to no ends for what he overcame in his life. I couldn’t think of a more fitting time to run his number than while being up against this knee surgery. I will be giving it my all this weekend in his honor and I hope to make him proud.”

This weekend’s races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will not be aired on Fanschoice.tv. Keep up to date with Kyle’s weekend through his Facebook page: www.facebook.com/kylewymanfans

AMA Pro SuperBike contenders gearing up for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Road racing fans are in for a treat this weekend as the country’s top riders will share the stage with their World Championship counterparts at the GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round, a combined AMA Pro Road Racing/FIM Superbike World Championship event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The 2014 AMA Pro SuperBike championship outlook has snapped into focus as the title fight begins its run down the homestretch. Despite losing his crown in 2013 and getting off to another rocky start early in 2014, three-time series champion Josh Hayes on the No. 4 Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1 has silenced any premature whispers that his era was coming to a close.

While his primary rivals all stumbled when confronted with three tricky races in succession, the 39-year-old’s unique combination of speed and experience allowed him to secure a commanding advantage with just five races remaining this season.

Hayes has just about every statistic going in his favor ahead of the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca weekend. Now boasting a remarkable 45 career victories and 31 poles, the Mississippian comes to California boasting three straight victories on the season and three in a row at the fabled circuit.

In fact, as a result of the compacted schedule featuring just one AMA Pro SuperBike race, there is only one rider in the field with even a remote chance of stealing Hayes’ title lead this weekend. And no, it’s not perennial contender Roger Hayden on the No. 95 Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing GSX-R1000nor rookie phenom Cameron Beaubier and his No. 2 Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1. The solitary racer within 30 points of Hayes at the moment is the ultimate championship dark horse, privateer David Anthony, pilot of theNo. 25 ADR Motorsports/Sic/Motul Fly Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000.

The Australian has been the revelation of 2014. Having reorganized his team to allow him the freedom to focus on his riding as opposed to the business aspects of running a top-flight independent effort, Anthony has been quick enough to keep the leading factory riders on their toes and has the consistency to make up ground whenever they falter.

Anthony earned the first AMA Pro SuperBike podium of his career with a runner-up result in the wet at Road America and then backed that up with another second-place ride in the extreme heat of Barber Motorsports Park. As a result, he’s currently second in the points, albeit 29 down on the resurgent Hayes.

While Anthony has garnered some well-deserved accolades as of late, he can’t ease up now because the aforementioned Hayden and Beaubier are just three and six points back, respectively.

Hayden didn’t get the big results he expected in Alabama and will be looking to make amends this weekend. The Yoshimura Suzuki ace has flashed exceptional speed in Monterey each of the last two seasons, even if the results haven’t exactly been there, and he could be in position to get his title push back on track this time around.

Beaubier, meanwhile, is looking to regain his confidence after a few difficult outings that have hindered his hopes for a championship run as a rookie. The Monster Energy Graves Yamaha rider has accomplished what no one since Mat Mladin has in demonstrating superior outright pace to teammate Hayes on multiple occasions. While his dazzling talent remains unquestioned, Beaubier has suffered from a handful of falls that have damaged both his title positioning and his psyche.

However, assuming he rediscovers his early season form, Beaubier could very well prove to be the one to beat this weekend. He scored the best result of his rookie AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike season in 2011 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with a runner-up result and followed that up with three straight victories at the venue. Back on his home turf, the 21-year-old Californian could prove difficult to overcome – even for his legendary teammate.

Chris Clark on the No. 6 Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing GSX-R1000 is only five points behind Beaubier and enjoying a breakthrough season of his own. Having finished no worse than sixth all year, Clark climbed on the podium for the first time in his AMA Pro Road Racing career in Birmingham with a third place result at Barber.

Clark actually leads his heralded teammate, Martin Cardenas on theNo. 36 Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing GSX-R1000 by 15 points. However, the Colombian is coming off his best result of 2014 with a runner-up finish last time out in the Alabama heat.

Chris Fillmore aboard the No. 11 KTM/HMC Racing KTM RC8R, meanwhile, is still seeking that elusive first AMA Pro SuperBike podium for both himself and KTM. His bike expired late in Saturday’s race in Alabama while solidly holding down a podium position. That heartbreak was reminiscent of the one endured last season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca when Fillmore powered onto the start/finish straight in third position only to run short of fuel before he arrived at the checkered flag.

Cory West, pilot of the No. 13 Team AMSOIL Hero EBR 1190RS, and Trent Gibson on this No. 17 Seven Sports Kawasaki ZX-10 round out the contenders ranked in the top ten who are readying to do battle in this weekend’s AMA Pro SuperBike contest. Both men enjoyed season-best results in last year’s finale at the circuit, with West taking fourth and Gibson coming home ninth.

The AMA Pro SuperBike stars will hit the track for the first time at 11:25 a.m. local time (2:25 p.m. ET) on Friday. The class’ 23-lap race is slated for a 4:20 p.m. (7:20 p.m.) start time on Sunday.

GoPro Daytona SportBike race up for grabs at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 10, 2014) – The 2014 AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike season has been a barnburner and the series looks to continue that trend at this weekend’s race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca at the combined AMA Pro Road Racing/FIM Superbike World Championship event. The GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round will feature a number of different riders and machines from around the globe, but the fierce middleweight battle might be the toughest fight on the card.

The 11-turn, 2.238-mile track will host the class with plenty of contenders but no clear favorite.

Each of the three AMA Pro Road Racing previous events this year has seen a different standout rider claim the spoils. At Daytona, Danny Eslick on the No. 69 Riders Discount Racing Triumph Daytona 675R earned pole and a DAYTONA 200 victory. At the Road America races, Jake Gagne, pilot of the No. 32 RoadRace Factory/Red Bull Yamaha YZF-R6, took the double win by outrunning the pack. At the last race, Dane Westby earned his share of glory in a runaway victory and a come-from-behind triumph on his No. 00 Yamalube/Westby Racing Yamaha YZF-R6.

Gagne leads the points heading into Laguna Seca. The Californian has been solid all season and the only blight on his record so far was getting caught up in a Saturday crash in Alabama. Gagne leads the points, 121 to 109, over Eslick. Gagne, known for his consistency, wasn’t able to extend the lead he assumed at Road America and will no doubt be looking to build on his margin in California.

Gagne led much of Sunday’s race in Alabama and, in a class with many contenders, has shown championship form in 2014. The former Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup champion looked great on the way to second place in points last year and has taken another step forward in his third season in AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike.

Gagne generally avoids trouble while finding a good pace. At Daytona, he couldn’t run with Eslick but earned the podium while other riders found drama. At Road America, that pace was good enough to double.

Eslick, a two-time series champion, has also excelled in his return from AMA Pro SuperBike. The Oklahoman is known for his flashy style but is remarkably consistent in his results. Eslick rarely tosses away points in the races.

After winning the championship on Buell and Suzuki machinery, the fan favorite could extend his reputation by taking a third title on his Triumph this year. The British bike could suit the twisty confines of Laguna Seca well.

While Eslick is yet to recapture the magic of Daytona, the veteran rider and crew continue to refine their bike at each round.

Fast teen Jake Lewis on the No. 85 MotoSport.com/Meen Yamaha YZF-R6 is third in points, just five behind Eslick. The Kentuckian has also revealed his speed this year and his first class win seems inevitable. Lewis has had plenty of highlights so far, and while he is yet to win, Lewis has forced others to outpace him to earn their victories.

Lewis is aggressive and talented, and it’s only a matter of time before he claims that maiden victory.

Fourth place rider JD Beach aboard the No. 6 Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R6 is also a frequent visitor to the podium. Along with teammate Garrett Gerloff, pilot of the No. 8 Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R6, Beach has usually been one of the protagonists at the front for the factory Yamaha entry. However, the duo is still searching for the team’s first victories of the season.

Beach quickly transitioned to the factory squad this year and has two seconds and a third so far.

Gerloff broke his arm in a fall at Barber, so his fitness for Laguna Seca is a question mark. Last year, the Texan clocked in with an outstanding performance in Monterey and challenged for the win.

Westby is fifth in points, rocketing back into the title hunt with an awesome Alabama weekend. Westby’s double win brought him to within 22 points of the lead and with five races to go, he is still very much alive in his title quest.

While those wins were impressive, it was the way in which they came that was shocking. Westby passed five of the toughest AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike riders in the second half of Sunday’s race to take the checkered flag.

Westby’s gamble to start a new program has paid dividends this year. “The Wolverine” had some bad luck the first two races of the year, but three podiums in a row show he and his squad are as fast as anyone in the class.

Westby will need a big Laguna Seca race to narrow the gap before the series heads to one of his favorite tracks, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in a week’s time. With two previous victories there, the Oklahoman is the man on the charge in AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike.

Kyle Wyman on the No. 33 Kyle Wyman Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 has been “Mr. Consistent” in 2014. The New Yorker has a great string of finishes that have elevated him up the charts.

Veteran Jake Zemke, riding the No. 98 GEICO Motorcycle Road Racing Honda CBR600RR has done the same, scoring each time out as his squad develops the Honda.

Youngsters Benny Solis on the No. 35 Team H35 Yamaha YZF-R6 and Tomas Puerta on his No. 12 RoadRace Factory/Red Bull Yamaha YZF-R6 are separated by just one point in ninth and 10th, respectively. Solis showed what he could do at Laguna Seca in 2008 during the Red Bull AMA Rookies Cup. Puerta has been the class’ top rookie in 2014.

Just behind them is a group of veteran riders. Jason DiSalvo on the No. 40 Castrol/Triumph/Sportbike Track Time Triumph Racing Daytona 675, Blake Young riding the No. 79 GN Gonzalez Racing Yamaha YZF-R6, Bobby Fong aboard the No. 50 Latus Motors/Castrol/Triumph Racing Daytona 675, and No. 15 D&D Cycles/Castrol/Triumph Racing’s Steve Rapp have all won in AMA Pro before, so the talent in the class extends well outside the top ten.

Fong’s Alabama performances were noteworthy. The Californian came back from last on a restart to earn a podium on Saturday and crashed out of the race on the last lap while fighting for the podium in Sunday’s contest.

With no AMA Pro SuperSport action at Laguna Seca, some of the top talent from that class will get a shot at AMA Pro Daytona SportBike. Kaleb De Keyrel on the No. 51 De Keyrel Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 is one of those racers, and is riding high after his double-podium in Alabama.

A total of 33 riders are entered for the race to be held on Sunday at 1:25 local time (4:25 p.m. ET).
