Quick Look: 2024 BMW M 1000 R: Naked, But Not A Stripper
I was at a Pacific Track Time event at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, and it was a giggle to throw the BMW M 1000 R into Sunset Corner, look past the apex, see five riders in front of me on the front straight and think: Yeah, I can get past all these guys by Turn One. No problem.
They may have heard me laughing as I came steaming past, the BMW just pouring on the power as it accelerated down the relatively short main straight. When I think about it, that particular segment of track was absolutely suited to the M 1000 R’s strengths—hard acceleration at relatively modest track speeds.
A naked bike isn’t ever going to be as reassuring and composed as a full-on sportbike at anything over 150 mph or so, but up to that point—whoopee!

The entire point of a super naked like the BMW M 1000 R is fun. Super nakeds are supposed to feel fast, rambunctious, more Mustang than Maserati, more NASCAR than Formula One. And we had a fast, rambunctious outing on the big BMW on the track at Buttonwillow—in the latest issue of Roadracing World!
