Jason Duplantis Racing Scores First CCS Expert Podium Finish at Carolina Motorsports Park.

Kershaw, SC – Jason Duplantis achieve a best result of 3rd in the CCS GTU race at Carolina Motorsports Park this weekend. He then followed it up with a 6th place finish in the 600 Superbike race, and a 7th place finish in the 750 Superbike Race, despite starting from the back of the grid. This is the first Championship Cup Series podium finish of the year for Jason Duplantis Racing.

The first race was the Expert GTU race. Duplantis started the race from the forth row, but the GTU race is a 25 minute timed race so Jason had plenty of time to work through the pack. By lap 3 he was already into 5th position and on lap four the red flag was thrown. After a brief pause in the action the race was restarted with new grid positions. On the restart Jason again got a nice start but lost one position going into the first turn. Duplantis regained the position and went straight back to work. Passing two more riders to put him in 3rd. With just one lap to go Jason had his sights fixed on the 2nd place rider and closed on him with a chance to make a pass in the last corner. Jason pulled right behind the rider on the brakes as they entered the final corner but could not come up with the pass and finished just .05 back from second place.

The next race of the weekend was the Expert 750 Superbike event. Jason was gridded on the last row but was not discouraged. This race was going to be an excellent opportunity to learn the complex South Carolina facility. He got an “OK” start but still went into the first turn nearly last. Duplantis passed 9 riders in 5 laps to settle into the 7th position. The gap to the next group of riders was too far to make up in the remaining laps so Duplantis started to relax on the last lap. This loss of focus almost turned into a huge mistake, when a rider went underneath him on the brakes in turn 11. Jason quickly regained his composer and just two turns later passed the rider back to finish 7th overall.

The last race of the weekend was the 600 Superbike Race. Jason was again gridded on the back row and after a less than perfect start went into the first corner in last position. Jason was again the rider on the move as he quickly found himself back in the top ten riders by the end of the 3rd lap. On lap 4 he had moved made up two more spots to put him in 6th position and was closing in on 5th. The gap to 5th was too much to overcome and Jason finished in 6th place.

Jason Duplantis – “Super pumped about the way this weekend went. We had a set of goals we wanted to achieve this weekend and we met them all. This was my first time racing at CMP and I was able to drop 3.5 seconds off of my best time. We also scored our first expert podium finish at a Championship Cup Series event. We worked really hard to get the bike set up and we improved our lap time every time we went out. I have to give a special thanks too Seth Starnes, Greg Melka, and Chip Spalding for helping me get the right base set up and a good plan on how to attack this weekend. I also want to thank my sponsors Millennium Technologies, KWS Motorsports, Velocity Powersports, and Ballistic. ”
