Brandon Cretu Recaps Superbike Series Brazil Wildcard Experience

Multi-time Isle of Man TT and Macau Grand Prix competitor, Brandon Cretu, competed in the opening round of the Superbike Series Brazil championship [April 13] at the famous Interlagos Circuit near Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Cretu rode a CBR1000RR for Santa Cruz Racing along with help from Bikers Team Racing and Splitlath Redmond. He struggled through the weekend with mechanical gremlins which limited his tracktime but he still managed to qualify 24th against some tough competition. Come race day, it looked like rain but the weather held off and allowed for a dry track come time to race. Cretu got a killer start and gained nearly 10 positions. He was embroiled in a good battle with a few other competitors and was making a superb effort to clinch his goal of a top 20 finish. Unfortunately, Cretu’s luck came to an end on the 4th lap when he lost his front brakes due to a failure in the caliper. He was forced to retire from the race and nurse the bike back to the pits.

“I was really bummed about the race as I felt I had the pace to get that top 20 finish I was aiming for. Everyone has been great to me down here in Brazil. Rafael Paschoalin and his Bikers Racing Team treated me like family and did everything they could to give me a good bike come race time. The organizers of the race were very welcoming and I was extremely impressed with the level of the series and the teams involved. My main sponsor, Santa Cruz Racing, were the best and so helpful during this whole trip. I cannot thank them enough for giving me this opportunity. I hope to be back down here again soon to do some more racing in Brazil but for now, my sights are focused on the upcoming Isle of Man TT!” said Cretu.
