Moto West Grand Prix Issues Statement On License Reciprocity

We have received a number of requests in recent weeks from groups of racers asking if we can waive the weekend reciprocity license fee. MWGP charges $30 for a weekend license, which is credited against the cost of an annual license if a racer purchases one later in the season. 

At this point, we’re not in a position to waive the weekend license fee. We honor the racing licenses issued by other recognized racing organizations, and we don’t ask those racers to go through our new racer school. But if we waive the weekend reciprocity fee for one group or organization, it would only be fair to waive that fee for anyone who asks. Those fees help pay for the best on-site medical care – the match of any club racing organization anywhere – nice-and-getting-nicer trophies, as well as the staff necessary to keep the operation running smoothly. 

And MWGP is investing in the future of motorcycle road racing in Southern California. We’re laying an economic foundation that will help us elevate the sport, attract sponsors, create nicer awards (and awards banquets!) and even put on nicer podium celebrations – having the umbrella girls at the Formula One podium last month was a hit with everyone! 

We know racing’s expensive for everyone. But with the steps we’re taking now, we’re building a solid base that will make motorcycle road racing bigger and better, year after year. Thanks for all of you who participate in making this the best sport on the planet.
