Team Honda Racing 2nd & 3rd on Podium and on Pole at Wakefield Park!

It was a fantastic day at the office for Team Honda Racing in the pre-curser to the Australasian Superbike Championship at Wakefield Park. The three race program of the Australian FX-Superbike Championship held today saw the Honda CBR1000RR SP go from strength to strength to finish 2nd and 3rd overall for the day. #17 Troy Herfoss starts on Pole for tomorrow’s Swann Insurance ASC 3 race program having recorded the fastest lap today and breaking the Superbike lap record for Wakefield Park.
In Superbike Race 1 it was a very tight battle out on track. #47 Wayne Maxwell onboard his Motul Honda CBR1000RR SP set a new lap record, a 59.004 seconds. Maxwell finished the race in 4th place, #27 Jamie Stauffer in 6th and filling in for Josh Hook, #17 Troy Herfoss finished his initial race with the Honda team in 15th, his fastest lap of the race a 59.474 sec.
The Race 2 saw Maxwell’s Motul Honda once again finish in 4th place with a fastest lap time of 59.031 seconds. Team mate Stauffer finished in 5thplace, his fastest lap of the race a 58.960 sec, and Herfoss continued to find his rhythm, finishing in 8th place with a fastest lap time of 59.436 seconds.
The final Superbike race of the day provided Team Honda Racing with another lap record for Superbikes at Wakefield Park when #17 Troy Herfoss recorded a lap time of 58.793 sec onboard his CBR1000RR SP. The race was held in 2 parts due to a crash and although Maxwell crossed the finish line first in the restart, the merged race times placed Maxwell 2nd, Herfoss 3rd and Stauffer 4th.
Having broken the lap record for Superbikes at the Wakefield Park circuit, Herfoss takes Pole position for tomorrow’s races in the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship and is suitably pleased. “What an amazing day after 18 months off. The team has been terrific and I’m really happy to finish today with the lap record and Pole position. The new SP is an amazing package that continues to impress me. I’m looking forward to racing again tomorrow.”
Stauffer will start from P3 tomorrow and is looking to make good use of his front row start. “The races today went pretty well with such a tight field. My lap times today were good and I believe we will be battling at the front tomorrow. The CBR1000RR SP is feeling strong out on track and with a few minor changes overnight I know the racing tomorrow will be close.”
Starting from P5 for tomorrow’s races does not reflect the terrific effort of Wayne Maxwell during today’s campaign, but his determination is clear. “The racing is really close. I did break the lap record in Race 1, but it was broken twice after that which is a clear indication of the strong field here this weekend. Having recorded the 5th fastest lap time of the day means I will start all 3 races tomorrow from P5, but we have great speed on the Motul Honda CBR1000RR SP and I believe if we push hard and get a good start we will be right up there fighting for the win.”
